1. What is diversity?
ANSWER: Diversity is the state or quality of being different or varied and it is also the inclusion
of people's differences.
2. Explain the value of understanding diversity in classroom management.
ANSWER: It is essential to understand diversity to smoothly manage the classroom, and better
understand each one's differences to meet each of their needs without prejudices and
discrimination.
3. What can non-acceptance of diversity do in an organization?
ANSWER: It would be a mess, since everybody is not open-minded and every one is a subject of
discrimination.
B. Read each paragraph and explain what you will do and why.
1. A parent asks to see you. He demands that you take out the crucifix inside your classroom
because the religion they belong to does not believe in the crucifix. How will you respond to the
parent?
ANSWER: I will tell the parent that I respect their beliefs and his child is in a classroom that
doesn't impose doing the crucifix. But there are students who believe in it and each one of us in
the classroom have the freedom to do it or not, it's really up to the person.
2. During the class elections, Gina and Roy are running for the position of the Class President.
What criteria will you base your decision on whom you will vote for?
ANSWER: I will base my decision on their previous actions, if they did show actions that shows
what is it to be a good leader and follower, if they portray a good character that listens to
everybody's queries without hesitations and judgements, and if they show the fairness in all
aspects.
3. You plan a relay game in your class. While you are explaining the mechanics, one student raises
her hand and says she can't do such activity because of her prosthetic leg. How will you respond
to the situation?
ANSWER: I usually encounter this kind of situation in the classroom as a student although the
situation is not about prosthetic leg. In my case, I will just give her the task of being an assistant,
be it a scorer or a person who watches the game to make sure it was a fair one with no cheating.
As long as she did something to participate in the activity it will be fine and for her not to feel that
she doesn't belong.
