Casual Speech Example - Oral Communication
Lucas: Hey!
Sophie (Stranger): Hi.
Lucas: Whassup?
Sophie (Stranger): Uh…. I’m doing fine.
Lucas: Cool! Where ya headed by the way?
Sophie (Stranger): I’m headed to the library.
Lucas: Yeah? Ok! Guess what, I’m goin’ there too! Wanna go together?
Sophie (Stranger): Uhm… No, thanks! I’m good by myself. Anyway, excuse me
but do I perhaps know you?
Lucas: Nahhh. I was gonna leave but I just think you look familiar, and I tried
talking to you so please don’t freak out.
Sophie (Stranger): ……
Lucas: What class are you under by the way?
Sophie (Stranger): Uhm… I’m not sure if I can tell you that. You don’t probably
know it if I told you.
Lucas: Oh c’mon now! I might be studying at the same university as you! I wanna
know it and who knows, we could probably be friends, don’t ya think?
Sophie (Stranger): Alright. First of all. I just recently moved at this town, so I
have no idea how am I familiar to you. Second, I apologize but you are making me
so uncomfortable because you approached me out of nowhere and suddenly asked
where I am headed to. Third, I was giving you hints since the beginning of our
conversation that I am not interested in talking to you since you talk to me like I
am your friend, but I honestly don’t know you. It’s alright to make friends with me
but I would actually appreciate it if you talk to me properly because the way you
are being casual right now to me makes me so uncomfortable and uneasy.
