This document is a student paper discussing whether Metro Manila can be considered a global city. It notes that to be a global city, a place must be a major hub for specialized financial and producer services supporting the global economy. While Manila has the attributes of many global cities like large buildings and multinational companies, it still faces significant issues like heavy traffic costing 3.5 billion pesos daily, high population density causing pollution, and extrajudicial killings during the war on drugs. Therefore, the student concludes that Manila needs further improvements before it can be viewed as a true global city.

”Metro Manila: A Global City?”
To be considered as a Global City, a city should be a major hub
for specialized financial and producer services that keep the worldwide economy running. The most well-known city here in the Philippines is Metro Manila. It is the capital of the country and the center of governance, institutions, and commerce. It has the attributes of most cities in the world; bonded with gigantic buildings, various work opportunities, and multinational companies. On the other hand, Metro Manila still faces different issues as of today; heavy traffic which caused it to lose 3.5 billion pesos a day; high population density which causes pollution, specifically in bodies of water like the famous Pasig River; and high-rate extra-judicial killings during the implementation of war-on-drug operations. With these issues despite the developments stated above, as a student living in a neighboring province of Manila while knowing the residing issues, Metro Manila still needs a lot of improvement to be considered as a global city.
