Felix the fox

Crochet pattern by GurumilandDesign

Size
The finished toy is approx. 6 inches high on the condition of using specified materials.
Materials and tools

Yarn of an average thickness (4 PLY): orange, white, graphite (you may use chocolate or
black yarn instead) and blue colors.

I used «YarnArt Jeans» yarn (160m/50g, 55% cotton/45% polyacryl) colors: 01 –

white, 77 – orange, 28 – graphite, 75 – blue.

Stuffing material for toys, for example, fiberfill.

Black DMC embroidery floss.

Crochet hook matching the yarn. I used 2 mm crochet hook (US: B/1, UK: 14)

Clear glue for gluing eyes to the toy.

Sewing needle to sew the details and embroider.

Some pins to fix the details.

Scissors.

4-6mm eyes for toys or half beads. I used 4mm beeds.

We need two 12-17mm flat buttons and strong thread (for example “Iris” yarn or nylon

sewing thread (doubled or tripled)) to make the movable head.

I used 16mm buttons.

stitch marker in the middle of the back.
(I didn’t need.)

Joining the arms.

Round 22: 4sc, 2sc together with arm*,

8sc, 2sc together with another arm*,
4sc
(20)

Round 23: 20sc (20)

Round 24: (3sc, dec)*4 (16)

Round 25: 16sc, sl st (16)

Cut off yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Additional part

For a movable head jointing.

If you don’t want to make movable head, then you don’t need this
part. You may just sew the head to the body then.

Crochet with orange yarn.

Round 1: 6sc in MR (6) Round 2: 6inc, sl st (12) Cut off yarn.

Head
Start crocheting with white yarn.

Stuff the head while crocheting.

Round 11: (inc, 5sc)*6 (42)

Rounds 12-18: 42sc (7 rounds) (42)

If you use safety eyes, put them now. I placed the eyes between 8-th and 9-th rounds
so that the distance between them is 16 stitches.

Round 19: (5sc, dec)*6 (36)

Before you go on, let's make a button jointing of the head to

make it movable.
You need two flat buttons and a strong thread. Choose the button
size that is equal the inside diameter of the open hole of the
body, so that it fit inside. I used 16 mm buttons.
Cut a length of thread and draw it through the holes in the button. Tie 2-3 knots. Place
the button inside the body, and pull the thread ends through the center of the additional
round piece we have crocheted before.

Put the round piece and the button inside the body and sew the detail to the body in a
circle.
Leaving the jointing threads outside.
Try on the head to the body.
And find the point on the head where it will be attached. I marked this place with a
white pin (see photo on the right) symmetrically in the bottom of the head, in the 12th
round.

Take the remaining thread ends from the body and pull them inside the head at that
point.

Place another button into the

head. Draw the thread ends
through the button holes and
tie a strong knot. Tighten firmly
(so that head could not dangle
then). Tie a few more strong
knots.

Leave the thread ends inside

and stuff the head with filling.

Continue crocheting the head.

Round 20: (4sc, dec)*6 (30) Round 21: (3sc, dec)*6 (24) Round 22: (2sc, dec)*6 (18)

Round 23: (sc, dec)*6 (12)

Round 24: 6dec (6)

Tighten the opening. Cut the yarn leaving a long tail for eyes tightening.

Ears (2 pieces)

Orange part:
Crochet and turn at the end of each row.
Row 1: MR, 1 sc (1)
Row 2: ch, inc (2)
Row 3: ch, sc, inc (3)
Row 4: ch, 2 sc, inc (4)
Row 5: ch, 3 sc, inc (5)
Work single crochets along two side edges: ch, 5 sc along one edge, 2 ch (the tip of the
ear), 5 sc along another edge.
Cut off yarn leaving a long tail for sewing. Make
two such pieces.
White part:
Round 1: 6 sc in MR, sl st (6)
Cut off yarn leaving a long tail for
sewing. Make two such pieces.

Carefully sew the white part onto the

orange part of the ear. Sew it with the
hidden stitch. This way there are no
white visible stitches behind the ear.
We sew the white part closer to the
base of the ear.
Join a graphite yarn and work BLO slip stitches along two side
edges of each ear. (Look at the photos below.)
You may hide the yarn ends later - when sewing the ears to the
head.

Back view
Assembly and decoration

Bend the ears slightly and pin them to the head symmetrically in desired position.
Then sew them.
Embroider a nose with graphite yarn or black DMC floss (using 4-6 strands). Make 3-4
horizontal stitches.
Embroider a vertical line on the muzzle with black DMC floss (using 1-2 strands).

Tighten eye sockets with the yarn tail you left while crocheting the head.
Mark the eye sockets using pins. I placed the eyes
between 8-th and 9-th rounds so that the distance
between them is 16 stitches.
Bring the needle out where the first eye will be placed.
Make a little stitch, bringing the needle out where the
second eye will be placed. Again make a little stitch,
bringing the needle out to the first eye place. Tighten
yarn lightly to create small deepenings where the eyes will
be placed. Fasten and hide yarn tail.

Glue or sew the eyes.

Collar
Crochet with blue yarn and turn at the end of each row.

We are going to crochet elastic stitches, working in BLO.

Work 11 ch and crochet 10sc starting from the 2-nd stitch
from the hook.

Turn your crocheting and from now on you have to work all
the rows like this:
ch, BLO 10sc, turn.

Crochet the elastic piece of desired length – more than

circumference of the fox neck. Look approx. size of the
piece at the picture on the right. I made 32 such rows in
total.
Hide yarn ends.

Insert a blue yarn in a needle. And pass it through each

stitch along the collar length (approx. in the middle) .
It is more convenient to do it with a blunt-end needle or
pushing blunt end of a needle forward. Slightly tighten the
yarn tails.
Leave yarn ends on both sides and tie knots on the tips.
These are straps.
The collar is ready.

Put the collar on the fox, tighten and tie the straps like a
bow-knot. Then bend down the upper edge of the collar .
Congratulations, your Felix the fox is ready!))
