Calcium Bromide Powder Product Data Sheet

Calcium bromide powder is an inorganic Bromide (CaBr2) with molecular

Product weight of 199.88. It is intended for use where the cost of transporting
Description liquid CaBr2 brine makes its use uneconomical. CaBr2 powder contains a
minimum of 95% CaBr2.

Calcium bromide is used for mixing high density, solids free completion
Applications/ brines and work over fluids. It is readily soluble and can be added to the
Functions system at rates limited only by the capabilities of the mixing equipment.
Calcium bromide can be used to formulate single salt brines or in
combination with other dual valency salts to form brines of the required
density. The two most common being Calcium bromide for densities up
to 15.1 lb/gal (1812 kg/m3) and with Zinc bromide to densities of 19.2
lb/gal (2301 kg/m3). exact formulations will depend on the crystallisation
temperature required. The maximum density achievable with Calcium
bromide powder by itself is 14.3 lb/gal (1716 kg/m3).

Advantages ¾ Densities to 19.2 lb/gal (2301 kg/m3) may be achieved in combination

with other salts.

Recommended Refer to Scomi Oiltools Engineering Manual Section 18 for brine blending
Treatment tables.

¾ Usage of Calcium bromide may be restricted by local HSE rules.

¾ If combined with monovalent salts may cause precipitation.
¾ Compatibility with work over chemicals and rubber components.
Limitations should be confirmed prior to use.
¾ Crystallisation point of brines generated may be too low for proposed
application.

Recommended Consult MSDS before use and use personal protective equipment as
Handling advised.

Packaging Calcium bromide is available in 25 kg sacks. Stored in dry, well-

ventilated area.
