‘MAKA-TAO’: NCSHS-SSG BAGS DIVISION
GAWAD SIKLAB AWARD

The Supreme Student Government of Naga City Science High
School won as the SSG- Best Implementer under the Maka-Tao category in the
2021 Gawad Siklab Search (Division Level).

Launched by the Department of Education (DepEd), Gawad

Siklab aims to recognize contributions that manifest DepEd’s core values:
Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Makakalikasan, and Makabansa.

The NCSHS-SSG submitted the project titled, “CLICK (Computer

Literacy: Igniting the Naguenian Community’s Knowledge)” which featured a
series of posts, infographics, and videos to enlighten students in utilizing
learning applications, and to guide them to the upcoming events for the
school year.

“We really did not expect that we would be recognized with an

award for the hard work, time and effort that we have poured into the - SSG Awards / Awardees

According to her, the said achievement reminds the governing body to continually serve the Naguenian community
in the face of adversity.
Meanwhile, SSG Adviser Domingo Vinluan revealed that the feat ticked off a goal of the SSG during the first year of his appointment—to drive the officers to competency.
“I am very happy and proud of my officers”, he said.
“This award is very significant to me because it helps my officers to continue their drive to serve the Naguenian community and at the same helps to build their trust in me
as new SSG adviser,” he added.

The NCSHS-SSG represented the Naga City Division and participated in the Regional Gawad Siklab Evaluation and Selection which was held last June 21-25 in Legazpi City.

In light of the COVID-19 Delta variant’s threat, the
majority of learners, parents, and teachers from
Naga City Science High School (NCSHS) approved
the postponement of face-to-face classes for the
school year 2021-2022.
The online survey conducted by Naguenian last
August 13 revealed that 85 percent of the
respondents were willing to delay in-person classes
to ensure everyone’s health and safety, most
especially the learners who have not yet been
vaccinated.
“Since they [the students] are still not vaccinated,
it is very risky to have face-to-face classes, especially
now that we have the Delta variant, which is more
infectious and more contagious,” Rochelle Seño,
Grade 9 parent, said.
Concurrently, 27 percent of the respondents said
that face-to-face classes should resume when there
are no longer COVID-19 cases in Naga City.
On top of that, Chelsie Bajamunde, faculty
member of NCSHS, enumerated three criteria for the
re-opening of face-to-face classes and emphasized
that the safety of the people involved should be at
the top priority.
“I think it is at best interest to conduct face-to-
face [classes] for the following criteria: Naga City
and neighboring towns have achieved herd
immunity; health protocols is [sic] well planned and
implemented throughout the involved sector of the
community such as transportation; schools are
ready to prepare, implement, and guide its
stakeholders on the conduct of face-to-face,”
