A 150mm x 350mm wooden beam carries a concentrated load of 30.36kN at
the midspan. It has a simple span of 8m long. Allowable shear stress is
0.85Mpa.
1. Which of the following gives the depth of notched at the support if the
notches at support if the notching is allowed using NSCP specifications
2. Which of the following gives the allowable death of notched at the bottom
and to faces of the beam at quarter points.
3. Which of the following gives the flexural stress at the quarter points after
deducting for notching.
The simply supported joist is used in the construction of a floor for a building.
In order to jeep the floor low with respect to the sill beams C and D, the end
of the joist are notched as shown in the figure. Allowable shear stress of
wood is 1.02Mpa and the allowable bending stress is 11.8Mpa. The beam
carries a concentrated load of 2700N at misdpan. Neglect weight of the
beam.
1. Compute the depth of the beam so as not to exceed the allowable
bending stress it has a width of 50mm
2. Compute the smallest height h so that the beam will not exceed the
allowable shearing stress of 2.5Mpa.
