LRIZAL

ACTIVITY 4 &5

ACTIVITY 4:
WRITING EXERCISE: Compare and contrast the views of those in favor and against RA 1425,
considering the context of the 1950; would similar arguments still have force today”

In the year the 1950s, Rizal Law ( RA 1425) was implemented that mandating all educational
institutions in the country to offer courses about Rizal and his work which was condemned by
the churches during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines because it violates the
Catholic rights to conscience and religion, but one of the main reason is that the work of Jose
Rizal, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, portrayed the churches as antagonists. Rizal law
was passed as it increases the sense of nationalism while churches believe that Rizal’s works
attack their practices and beliefs. I believe that these arguments won’t be force today because
we are already free from the hand of the churches that was ruled by Spanish. Today, issues
between the government and some religious sector have been more prevalent than ever so
some arguments are given attention for a short time and will be disregard or forgotten as new
arguments arise.

ACTIVITY 5:
Cite the parallelism of Rizal law and RH law.

In the process of passing the RH Law, Baga-ao stated, “Huwag natin biguin si Rizal. We
must not let the people with tunnel vision lead our people. Patuloy tayo magbigay liwanag sa
pamamagitan ng edukasyon sa ating mga kabayayan”, wherein he is trying to imply that RH law
can help people to be more educated which is what Rizal wants the future generation to have.
Also, churches use the same reasoning to oppose Rizal law and RH law saying that it violates
the Catholic right to conscience and religion and declared that “contraception is corruption” and
the RH law is “anti-life”.
