Final Mission 3 Project

1. Define the problem

● For this you will be following the basic content of the design brief and you will
include:
○ Your topic/”problem” - Injuries in athletes
○ The problem statement - An important part of keeping athletes fit and healthy
lies in preventing serious injuries early on. If professionals could detect an
injury on time, they could treat it before it gets worse and puts the player off
the field.
○ Your target consumer - Athletes
○ Criteria -
○ Function - Monitor athletes body
○ Form - Sensors are either attached directly on the body or come
embedded in wearables to be worn out in the field.
○ Safety - Does not harm the athlete as it is sensing and can be worn while
performing.
○ Reliability - The sensors can be charged and taken out of the wearables
for them the wearables to be washed.
○ Biocompatibility - the sensors will detect the heat, swelling, range of
motion, joint movement, taughtness, etc. of the focused body part.
○ Aesthetics - Its motion capturing sensors that can be connected to a
device such as a phone and the body or body part can be monitored
through an app.
○ Constraints - Must not prevent the athlete from their sport. Must not harm
athletes.
○ Design statement - Design an innovation that helps athletes prevent injuries,
an innovation that monitors the athletes.
○ Design team/engineers - Kiersten Roberts

2. Develop a solution(step 3)
● The product is a motion-capturing device, sensor, that can enhance human
performance, monitor rehabilitation, and provide insights to reduce the risk of injuries
in athletes.
● Reduce and montior risks of injuries in your athlete!
● Its noninvasive, easy to wear, east to use and the sensors shows the ins and out of
the body between heart rate, range of motion and swelling.
● Materials - plastic, metal
Final Mission 3 Project
● How the product works - The sensor is worn in a compression sleeve(an example) or
wristband during activity. Raw 3D movement data of the throwing arm is recorded
and transmitted to a mobile app via Bluetooth, after or during a training session. The
app computes and displays biomechanics metrics of the throw and makes
information available to teams and coaches for deeper analysis. Is performance
enhancing data for performance optimization and reduction of injury risk.
