RATIONALE:

Nowadays, travelling has emerged as an important leisure activity that people undertake.
Motives for travel come in variety of reasons, among them are for physical purposes or those that
are directly related to health, wellness, and physical enjoyment.

A tour to become doubly enjoyable when there is a well-trained tour guide who makes a
place of interest alive with commentaries or almost anything: history, geography, architecture,
food, customs, legends or trivia. An average tourist may rely on guidebooks but the knowledge
that is imparted by a tour guide may be found in any brochure. Tour guides are much like
teachers; they deliver information about destination in an accurate and engaging fashion.

Maligcong as one of the barangay of Bontoc, Mountain Province is gifted with rich
natural resources where beautiful view spots surround it, the rice terraces and alienable
disposable land imbues primitive hidden tourist attractions which could intricate this places
potentiality in the lists of top tourist destination here in Bontoc, Mountain Province. However,
there are circumstances that hinder the development of the said destination, like absence of
Tourism Program implementation and lack of skilled frontline Tourism and tour guides.

Conducting a seminar workshop on tour guiding and tourism destination management


would implicate this locality for further growth and salvation not only to the attraction sites but
also to their diminishing culture. This activity would ensure trained tour guides of this
municipality who would be the representative of the destinations cultural practices, and
mediators in terms of cultural, environmental, and economical conflicts that this place may
encounter. It would also impart knowledge and skills of making tour itineraries and ethics of tour
guiding. In addition, this will encourage local entrepreneurs to form a generating income for the
community that would give employment opportunities for out of school youths. The activity
would ensure proper planning and development of the destinations potential and existing tourist
attractions. It will adjust the communities mind set on the future changes that may happen and
instill to their mind on how they balance any impacts and risks that they will encounter. This
would create chances on revitalizing their cultures and traditions that they will soon showcases to
other people outside their community. Furthermore, the activity would provide an insights and
knowledge on tourism promotion and sustainability.

Therefore, the conduct of the said training is deemed to assist barangay of Maligcong in its
potentiality in becoming a prime tourist destination of the province. This activity aims to
develop, promote and market the said destination which will in lined to other most visited tourist
destination in the province, in the region and nationwide.

OBJECTIVES:
Main Objective:
 To promote Maligcong as a tourist destination and to enhance the tour guiding skills of
tour guides to become a community based hospitality livelihood.
Specific Objectives:
 To provide knowledge on tourism and the importance of tour guiding to the hospitality
industry;
 To enhance the participant’s knowledge and skills on tour guiding; and
 To orient participants on tour package and itinerary.
 METHODOLOGIES:
 Assessment of the community/client extension service need;
 Preparation of the activity design;
 Fund Sourcing;
 Implementation of the Activities;
 Packaging of Terminal Reports;
 Publication of reports in journal.
