CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Hospital is the essential part of our lives which provides us with the best medical facilities for
various sickness, it may be due to the change in climatic conditions, stress (emotional trauma) etc.
It is necessary for the hospital to keep track of all activities and records day in and day out of its
patient, doctors, nurses and other staffs that keeps the hospital in its operation. Keeping track of all
activities and reports on paper is very inefficient and time consuming and also error prone. Keeping
records on paper is a traditional base system that sometimes do not make it robust, in any case of
damage all files will be lost that will cost a lot to the organization. Day in and day out many people
visit the hospital and when using the traditional base system, it makes it unreliable in the sense that
it will take longer time to enter or access data and also maintaining. It is not economically and
technically feasible to maintain these records on paper. Thus, we have developed an automated
version of the manual system called “Patient Management System". Patient Management System is
designed specifically to manage episodes of care, quickly and safely. The main aim of our project
is to provide a paper-less, low-cost reliable automation of an existing system. This system also
provides excellent security of data at every level of user-system interaction and also provides
robust and reliable storage and backup facilities.
b) OBJECTVES

Main objectives of Patient Management System are:

 The objective of this project is to enhance the reliability, security, and convenience in the

administration of patients of the hospital or clinic.

 A logic system for enabling only authorized access to the system.

 Design a system for better patient care.

 Provide MIS (Management Information System) report on demand to management for better

decision making.

 Better co-ordination among the different departments.

 Provide top management a single point of control.

 Patient can check their progress.

 If a patient checks out, the admin can delete his patient id from the system.

 c) SCOPE

The Patient Management System can be used in any hospital and clinic to get information from the
patients and then storing that data for future usage. The intention of this system is to reduce
overtime pay and increase the number of patients that can be treated accurately. It can be
implemented in any hospital or clinic across the nation and anyone can access the website with
minimum internet connectivity.
CHAPTER 2: SYSTEM ANALYSIS

a) EXISTING SYSTEM

Hospitals currently use a manual system for the management and maintenance of critical
information. The current system requires numerous paper forms, with data spread throughout the
hospital management infrastructure. Often information on forms are incomplete, or does not follow
management standards. Forms are often lost in transit between departments requiring a
comprehensive auditing process to ensure that no vital information is lost. Multiple copies of the
same information exist in the hospital and may lead to inconsistencies in data in various data stores.
The current system of managing patients records in paper form leads to wastage of resources and
data of patient can be lost during any catastrophic events such as flood, earthquake, etc in such case
it becomes very difficult to retrieve the lost data.

b) PROPOSED SYSTEM

The Patient Management System (PMS) is designed for any Hospital to replace their existing
manual, paper-based system. This system is to control the following information; patient
information, room availability, staff and operating room schedules, and patient invoices. These
services are to be provided in an efficient, cost effective manner, with the goal of reducing the time
and resources currently required for such tasks.
