WARNING

MAKE SURE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT ENERGIZED.

Printed on Sep 18/2021 from C 292 M5 460 9 IETP, dated Jun 15/2021.

WARNING

WAIT AT LEAST 1 MINUTE BEFORE CARRYING OUT ANY INTERVENTION ON

AN ENGINE WHICH WAS OPERATING JUST PRIOR TO A PROCEDURE BEING
IMPLEMENTED. THE ENERGY ACCUMULATED IN THE IGNITION BOX CAN BE
FATAL.

(1) Remove the igniters from the turbine casing but do not disconnect them from the ignition
units. (Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).

(2) Attach the igniters to the turbine casing with stainless steel lockwire (diameter = 0.5 mm) in
such a position that the operator can see the production of sparks.
(3) Disarm the starter generator switch (Refer to the aircraft manufacturer's documentation).
(4) Energize the aircraft (Refer to the aircraft manufacturer's documentation).

CAUTION: DO NOT STAY CLOSE TO THE HIGH-ENERGY UNIT DURING THE

STARTING PHASE.

CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE SPARK GAPS DURING THE STARTING PHASE.

CAUTION: THE ENGINE MUST NOT START. IF IT STARTS (YOU CAN HEAR THE
ENGINE START TO RUN), IMMEDIATELY SHUTDOWN BY SWITCHING
BACK TO THE "STOP" NOTCH.

(5) Start the engine in the ground idle position (Refer to the aircraft manufacturer's
documentation).

NOTE: You must complete the test within max. 15 seconds.

(a) Effect: each igniter plug makes sparks that you can see and hear at a rate of
approximately 2 sparks per second
(b) Criteria

– Strong and regular spark

– Color: white / bluish
– No weakening

Effectivity: ALL

Maintenance Level: 1

NOTE: Usual spark rate = 23 to 38 sparks in 15 seconds.

(6) Set the engine control to the Stop position.
(7) Depending on the result, do the checks that follow

(a) If the result is incorrect on the two channels:

1 Replace the two igniters (Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805) and do again a test of
the ignition system.
2 Do an electrical check of the two ignition cables
(Refer to Task 74-24-10-750-801).
If an anomaly is found on one of the cables, replace it
(Refer to Task 74-24-10-900-801) and do again a test of the ignition system.
Printed on Sep 18/2021 from C 292 M5 460 9 IETP, dated Jun 15/2021.

3 Replace the high-energy ignition unit (Refer to Task 74-11-10-900-801) and do

again a test of the ignition system.
4 Do an electrical check of the "control and monitoring" harness
(Refer to Task 71-51-00-750-801).
5 Replace the DECU (Refer to Task 73-21-00-900-801) and do again a test of the
ignition system.

NOTE: If the failure is corrected, you can install again the unserviceable
DECU, if necessary, to make sure that the failure occurs again and
that the source of the failure is the DECU.
6 Do the check of the engine starting Aircraft system (refer to the aircraft
manufacturer's documentation).
(b) If the result is incorrect on one channel only:

1 On the High-Energy Unit, interchange the connections of the two high-energy

cables (Refer to Task 74-24-10-900-801) and do again a test of the ignition
system.
If the anomaly moves from one channel to the other, replace the High-Energy
Unit (Refer to Task 74-11-10-900-801) and do again a test of the ignition system.
2 Connect the two ignition cables back in their initial condition
(Refer to Task 74-24-10-900-801).
3 Do a visual inspection of the igniter of the unserviceable ignition system
(Refer to Task 72-43-00-200-803).
Replace the igniter if the result of the visual inspection is incorrect
(Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805) and do again a test of the ignition system.
4 If no anomaly is found on the igniter:

a Remove the igniter from the unserviceable system

(Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).
b Remove the igniter from the serviceable system
(Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).
c Connect the igniter from the unserviceable system on the serviceable
system (Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).
d Connect the igniter from the serviceable system on the unserviceable
system (Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).

e Do a test of the ignition system:

– If the anomaly moves from one side to the other, replace

the igniter from the system that is unserviceable at this time
(Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).
– If the anomaly stays on the initially unserviceable system,
replace the high-energy ignition cable of this system
(Refer to Task 74-24-10-900-801).
(8) De-energize the aircraft (Refer to the aircraft manufacturer's documentation).
(9) Install the igniters (Refer to Task 72-43-00-900-805).
(10) Arm the starter generator switch (Refer to the aircraft manufacturer's documentation).
