1.

Before the actual processing starts the data and the instructions fed to
the computer through the input units are stored in this primary storage unit.
Similarly, the data which is to be output from the computer system is also
temporarily stored in the primary memory. It is also the area where
intermediate results of calculations are stored.

2. The computer fetches and keeps the data and files it in the primary
storage device until the process is completed or data is no longer required.

3. Non-volatile memory keeps its contents even when the computer is

switched off. Volatile memory loses its contents when power is lost.

4. RAM is used to hold data and instructions that are currently in use. In
a modern PC, RAM is used to hold the operating system and any open
documents and programs that are running.

5. The contents of RAM can be changed at any time by overwriting it

with other data and instructions. For example, a user might close one
document and open another or run a different program.

6. The more RAM a computer has, the more data and program
instructions it can hold simultaneously. RAM can also be upgraded
easily, unlike other types of primary storage.
(DRAM) Each electrical component has two states of value in one bit called
0 and 1. This captivator needs to be refreshed often otherwise information
fades. DRAM accesses the memory directly, holds memory for a short
period and loses its data when the power is shut off.
