1. SCOPE

The procedure is intended to use for Touch up painting of the Structural Steel coated
surfaces at site for ZUBAIR OIL FIELD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, IRAQ.

3. TOUCH UP AND REPAIR PROCEDURE

3.1 Scope

Control of surface preparation and repair on damaged areas. The bare metal mechanical
cleaning standard will be SA 2.5 as a minimum as per recommendation from paint
manufacturer.

3.2 Definition

DFT – Dry Film Thickness.

3.3 Paint Damaged Area on Structural Steel

- Visually inspect surface areas for contamination such as oil, grease, duct / dirt,
etc.
- Remove any contamination by cleaning with solvent or approved cleaner.
- Mechanically clean the area using power tool wire brush, or sanding disk.
- Feather the edges on the surrounding of the exiting coating to smooth finish.
- Visually examine to ensure all surfaces are cleaned up to standard.
- Apply One Coat of INTERZINC 52-60 microns DFT.
- Check thickness of dry coating with non-destructive dry film thickness gauge, if
less than specified thickness, apply additional coats as needed.
- Apply One Coat of INTERGARD 475 HS -200 microns.
- Apply One Coat of INTERTHANE 990– 70 microns as per the specification on
the repaired area.

Note:- Repair of Defects.

Damaged areas, defect in the coating system such as over-runs, drips and smears that
have to removed or areas with inadequate dry film coating thickness shall be re-cleaned.
The re-cleaning shall carry over on the surrounding coating not less than 75 microns all
round and edges shall be feathered (over a width of at least 50mm) After the surface
cleaning the specified coating system or the required layers of the specified coating shall
be re-applied. In case of the application of additional coats these shall blend in with the
final coating on adjoining areas. Before over coating, requires abrading shall be done to
obtain good bonding.

MID COAT :- INTERGARD 475 HS - 200 microns
FINISH COAT :- INTERTHANE 990(RAL 6024) – 70 micron

TOTAL DFT – 330 microns

MID COAT :- INTERGARD 475 HS - 150 microns

TOTAL DFT – 270 microns

3.6 Painting Application Method

Brush and roller shall be used for touch up or repairs to localized damage. All brushes
and roller covers shall be of good quality to enable the proper application of the paint.
Paint shall be applied in a smooth even coat, deep brush and roller marks should be
avoided, all runs and sags are to be immediately brushed out, paint shall be properly
applied onto all corners and crevices.
