Introduction
As we refer to Perspective of Teacher Education and Value Education in Islamic
literature, we invariably stop on the Ashabe Suffa. Suffah is a raised platform of Education
occupied by the poor companions of the Prophet; these companions are called Ashabe Suffah
(House Holder of the raise platform). Ashabe Suffa is “The Ashab us-Suffah were companions of
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) who, along with the performance of
religious duties, were mostly tradesmen or farmers. Some had, however, dedicated their lives
exclusively for prayer and spiritual discipline in the close company of the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allah be on him). The precise number of the Ashab us-Suffah is not known, but it is
estimated that the suffah could hold up to three hundred people at any one time, and that roughly
seventy people made up its’ permanent residents. The initial inhabitants of the suffah were
members who had migrated from Makkah and were without any accommodation.”

The Prophet came at Suffah (the platform that housed the Ashab us-Suffah) to teach and
explain the salient features of the religion. People used to come there after undertaking a long
journey to learn about Islam also. In addition, some of these companions those who possess high
/ ideal Values and morals like Holy Prophet are worshipped. Further, those who go there would
engage themselves in promotion of Islam in the light of the teachings of Holy Prophet. In the
light of this, we can say that Ashabe Suffah has the privilege of being the first Teacher Educator
of Islam and Suffah is first Islamic Residential University.

All the Muslims, who are learning ‘Deen’ (religious knowledge of Islam), in a way are
equal to Teacher Educators. The intention of Muslim towards learning of Deen is to follow the
principles, guidelines of Islam and to teach others what they have to learn and further to motivate
them to follow the same simultaneously. All the Messengers of Allah are teachers because their
aim is to propagate and spread the teaching of the religion of Allah. The Holy Prophet
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has himself said ‫"”إنما بعثت معلما‬I have been sent only as a teacher."
Teaching is a sacred profession, which is affecting all spheres of man’s life. For it plays an
important role in developing the physical, social, spiritual, cultural and aesthetic values of human
life and its affects in all walks of life directly. Hence, the teacher also affects all the aspects of
society indirectly. Educational qualifications, personal qualities, attributes and the training

institutions of the teacher have become a powerful tool to transmit the altruistic values in society,
so it becomes essential that it should be free of all faults i.e. it is perfect as well as ideal.

Islam has propounded a disciplined value education in so many texts to teach the people
Value Education and Akhlaq (Morals), as it is held that the teacher's behavior always directly
affects the students thinking and conduct.

The Islamic values, which formulate value education, are as follows:

 Right Speech
Islam urges its followers do not tell lie (jhoot) be truthful (sach) in word, deed and
thought and asks them to speak the truth politely. In Islam Jhoot is a Gunaahe Kabira (Great Sin)
Quran prohibited, warned, and alerted in so many places about not lying and Allah Himself sent
Lanat (Curse) on Kazebeen. In this regard, the Holy Quran Says in Chapter Ale Imran, Verse-61
“‫“ ”لعنۃ ہللا علی الکاذبین‬the Curse of Allah upon those who lie” (Khan)

َ “they will suffer a painful
punishment as a result of the lie which they speak.” In an another Chapter Al Haj, Verse-30
“‫“ ”واجتنبوا قول الزور‬stay away from false word”

The Prophet himself when he spoke always spoke the truth and the tone is very soothing
and gentle and he also urged the companions to follow the same.

Holy Quran says in Chapter Al Hujrat verse-2 "‫“ "الترفعو اصواتکم فوق صوۃ النبی‬Believers, do
not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet” (Sarwar).

Qur’an says in another Chapter Luqman verse-19 ‫
َ ‫ت ل‬
Be moderate in your walking and your talking. The most unpleasant
sound is the braying of donkeys” (Sarwar). The purpose of this example has to encourage the
development of high values. In this connection, Allama Iqbal states in a couplet ‫ گرم‬،‫دم گفتگو‬ ِ ‫"نرم‬
"‫ پاک دل و پاک باز‬،‫دم جستجو۔ رزم ہو يا بزم ہو‬ ِ “Soft in Social exposure, Tough in the line of pursuit. But
whether in fray or in social gathering, ever chaste at heart, ever clean in conduct”

Islam desires that their followers to be with those who carefully discharge their duty to
Allah.
O ye who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true (in word and deed).”
(Yusufali)

O you who believe!

Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth.” (Khan)

Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) says ‫
Helakat to the person that telling a lie is to make people laugh
because when they see the truth they realise the folly of person.

In another instance, Prophet says, “Abu Huraira stated that ‘ The Messenger of Allah,
peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‫ت‬ ْ ‫اَّللِ َو ْالیَ ْو ِم ْاْل ِخ ِر فَ ْلیَقُ ْل َخی اْرا أ َ ْو ِلیَ ْس ُك‬
believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak goodness or remain silent’. (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-
Bukhārī 6110, Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi)

 Right Thought
In Islam, it has been suggested that Shaitan will throw evil suggestions into one’s mind.
These suggestions have no power over us, unless we choose to act on them. If we follow an evil
or have negative trends of thought, then it will lead us to doing wrong deeds leading to a terrible
end. Thus, when we find ourselves caught up in a bad line of thinking, we need to immediately
replace these negative thoughts with positive inward thoughts to overcome their effects.

Abu Dharr observed that ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
s
aid: ‫سنَةَ ت َْم ُح َها‬ َّ ‫ َوأَتْبِ ْع ال‬Follow a bad deed with a good deed and it will erase it. (Source: Sunan
al-Tirmidhī 1987, Grade: Sahih)
Positive thoughts are those that produce good feelings, Nek Amal (Good deeds), peace of
mind, gratitude, Sokoon (Comfor / Calmnes) Qana’at (Contentment), and other positive
emotional states. These are truthful thoughts about Allah, hope in the Aakherat (Day of
Judgment) the prophets, our blessings, good deeds, and so on. They produce wisdom and
enlightenment in the heart.

Negative thoughts are those that produce bad feelings, Adawat (Hostility), Gaiz (Wrath),
Hasad (Ency), jealousy, hatred, anxiety, depression, and other negative emotional states. These
are thoughts about the world, our wealth, our status, people whom we do not like or who have
wronged us, and so on. The cause of these thoughts arises due to an attachment or due to the
delusions of worldly and materialistic life that cloud the mind and prevent its Tahaarat (Purity).

Some people think that happiness is related to situations, but the real happiness is related
to the thoughts. Islam focuses in several instances on positive thinking and urges the people to be
positive and happy. Islam says all the Aamaal (Deeds) depends upon Niyah (Intention). Umar ibn
Al-Khattab reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‫ِإنَّ َما ْاْل َ ْع َما ُل‬
Verily, deeds are only with. Verily, every person will have only what they
intended. (Sahih Bukhari 54)

Islam says do not think Negative and never be Maayoos, Na Ummeed (Hopless). Quran
Says in Chapter Az-Zumar, Verse-53 “‫طوا ِمن َّرحْ َم ِة‬ َ “do not despair of the mercy of Allah”
(Shakir).

 Right Behavior
When we turn the pages of Islamic Value Education, we find that Islam focuses on many
types of Values such as Cleanliness is a part of Iman. “ ‫ كريم‬، ‫ نظیف يحب النظافة‬، ‫إن ہللا طیب يحب الطیب‬

‫ جواد يحب الجود‬، ‫ ”يحب الكرم‬Allah is good like goodness, Allah is Clean like Cleanliness, Allah is
merciful like mercy, Allah is generous like generous.

Quran observes in Chapter Al Maeda Vers-6

Believers, when you are about to
pray, wash your face and your hands along with the elbows and wipe your head and your feet to
the ankles. If you experience a seminal discharge, manage to take (the required) bath. If you are
sick, or on a journey, or have just defecated, or have had intercourse with women and cannot find
any water, perform a tayammum by: touching clean natural earth with both palms and wiping
(the upper part) of your face and (the back of) your hands. God does not want you to suffer
hardship. He wants you to be purified. He wants to complete His favors to you so that perhaps
you would give Him thanks."

Islam is prohibiting to creating Fasad (disorder), mischief and corruption in the earth. We
can infer that we must allow all the things to remain in their original form as nature created i.e.
Don’t pollute air, water and environment and do not dare to tamper with nature‫۔‬

Islam focuses on Aamale Saleha, Akhlaqe Hasna and Ehsan. Dealing with good manners
and doing well. Islam says deal every person with good behavior and do not get angry with
anyone. There is emphasis towards showing respect for one’s parents and elders. In this context,
ٍ‫ُ َ ه‬‫ا‬ ‫م‬‫ه‬َّ ‫ل‬ you must be kind to your parents. If either or both of your
parents should attain old age, do not say anything that will hurt them (words that show your
slightest disappointment). Never yell at them, but always speak to them with kindness.

Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said ‫ ِب ُّر ْال َوا ِلدَي ِْن َي ِز ْيدُ ِفی ْالعُ ْم ِر‬kindness of parents is the cause of
long life. If anybody wishes to live long peacefully, then they should treat their parents with
kindness and never show any disrespect towards them. Quran defines Ehsan in Chapter Ar-
The Jaza of Ehsan is only Ehsan (reward of good is
only good).

Quran says to Muslim that you are good because you order the people to do good things
and prevent form doing bad things. Islam says that the best things in all deeds are Husne Khalq
and bad things in all deeds are Nahusat or Bad Khalqi.

Islam says treat everyone equally, because all human beings are equal. Quran states “O
mankind, indeed we have created you from male and female, and have made you into nations
and tribes, that you may know one another. Indeed the most honored of you in the sight of Allah
is the most righteous. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted" [Quran 49:13]”

Volume 9 Issue 10 - 2019 502 www.joics.org

Journal of Information and Computational Science ISSN: 1548-7741

“Prophet Muhammad said: "O mankind, your Lord is One and your father is one.
You all descended from Aadam, and Aadam was created from earth. He is most honored among
you in the sight of God who is most upright. No Arab is superior to a non-Arab, no colored
person to a white person, or a white person to a colored person except by Taqwa
(piety)." [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi ]

In Islam, it is stated that to resolve the matters between two people is better than offering
Namaz and Sadqa. Islam encourages their followers to be good and treat everyone with Husn
Akhlaq. Islam grants acceptance for all those habits, which are beneficial for Society and
prohibiting all those habits which result is bad deeds. Quran states in Chapter An-Nahal, verse-

Allah
commands (people) to Adal, Ehsan and proper relations with their relatives. He forbids them to
commit indecency, sin, and rebellion. Allah gives you advice so that perhaps you will take heed.

The other values stated in Akhlaqe Hasan are as follows;

Ehsan (To kindness), To offer Ulfa and Mohabbat (insights, love and
affection), Amanatdari (fiduciary duty), Isar-o-Qurbani (Sacrifice), Khanda Peshani (Gracious),
Sokoon-o-Itminan (Cool comfort of non-hastily), Cooperation In khair (Good things), Tawazo
(Humility), Aajezi Inkesari (Humbly, modesty,) Burdbari (Sagacity), Judo Sakha (Generosity),
Sharmo Haya (shame, Modesty), Narmi (Softness), Parda Poshi (Cover), Salamate Sadar
(safety), Paki (purity) of Heart, forgiveness, Rahmato Shafqat (Mercy compassionate) Courage,
high morale, truth, patience, Isteqamat (Perseverance), Justice, Gairat (Honor), Farasat wa
Hikmat (wit and wisdom), Qnatao Murawwat (Contentment), seriousness and dignity, Ahad ki
Pasdari (honor commitment) etc.

All the values the Prophet had taught his companions and gave them a proper training
to everyone by their Zate Bakamal and implored on them that respect all human beings, because
it is the Ashraful Makhluqaat.

Islam discusses over all aspect of life and the greatness of the man are also encouraged by
a variety of ways. The companion of the prophet has adopted that thing in their life and thus their
life is ideal for us and the Prophet and his companion is our role model and real Hero.

After the end of the series, the responsibility of preaching and spreading teaching of
Islam was imposed to their Ulma (Scholar). Therefore, when we look from this perspective , all
the Ummah of Muhammad ,who are seeking religious / Islamic education are Teacher Educator
because they are given a special type of religious, moral and educational training after the
completion of this training. They become Teacher, Imam and Preacher etc. and give others the
same education. Before the completion of this training or during the training they ask to offer so
many types of responsibility like conduct a Bazm (religious gathering), perform the duties of an

Imam and to take classes as Internship, which aims to all round development and prepare them
for practical life as well as make them prefect in all aspect of life.

To become an embodiment of sincerity towards his students is an ideal example of Value

Education. It is important to keep school environment joy full, if anybody makes a mistake, do
not be angry with them, but forgive, to let the students to assimilate that value. They also
demonstrate the cultivation of patience when violent or anger. The person, who is controlling
his/her temper can be called a great person and Allah with those who have patience. To quote the
Qur’an says in Chapter Albaqra verse-153 “O ye who believe! Seek help with patient
perseverance and prayer; for Allah is with those who patiently persevere”.

What had been taught by the holy prophet (PBUH) has been practiced by the sahabah.
Islam focuses more on an ideal and perfect personality like Holy Prophet and his Companions.
The behavior and the role of the teacher is the ideal mentor for students. Your walking style,
your articulation, your interests and deals and affairs, these things compiled unconscious effects
on students. If you are playing an ideal role, your students will never engage non-ideal activity. It
is an eternal truth that knowledge is useless without action, so teachers should be practical
themselves as ideal or role model before students and Whatever the precepts the first adhere
itself in order to be effective precepts or advise otherwise it is called ‘Example is better than
precept.’

In Islam, a teacher is not merely functioning as a source of knowledge for his students,
but essentially a role model. That is why a teacher not only must reflect himself as a figure of
knowledge, but must also a figure of high spiritual quality apparent in his akhlaq. The
uniqueness of value education in the philosophy of Islam unlike other civilizations do not have is
the perfect role model for man, the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad PBUH.

Conclusion
In the light of all facts presented, we can assess the form of Value Education that Islam
offers. Islam says when teacher’s personality will be free from evil or from all the bad things; the
teacher will be endowed with good morals, ethics, and characters his/her personality will have a
magical impact on students’ personality. The second advantage of it is that it will induce proper
students training. Islam is not focusing on what one does, but it focus more on what do not do, it
is certified by the first Kalama which is started with '‫ 'ال‬mean no.

All above referenced and written points show the various approaches of Value Education
in Islam. Education in Islam is always under the basis of Islamic values. Islam does not view
education as value free or simply intended to attain human happiness in the world.
