The table provides the figures of a survey on the consumption of mobile
phones during the six years, from 2006 to 2012.
Generally, the number of Ericson and Motorola mobile phones sold decreased dramatically, while Samsung and Apple saw an opposite trend in their sales; and Nokia purchase did not show any significant differences over the period. In 2006, the most prevalent phone brand was Nokia, approximately three times more than that of Samsung, 117 million units. Although in the early years of the period Samsung was a loss in sales compared to Nokia, but Samsung seemed to gain substantial popularity, becoming the top brand of mobile phone at the point of 396.5 at the end of the period. In comparison, Ericson and Motorola simultaneously showed a dramatic fall, from 74 and 210 respectively to 28 over six years. Apple joined the mobile phones market one year later than the others with starting point of 2.3. After five years, however, the brand witnessed a ceiling trend to increase nearly 60 times (135.8) in 2012. Overall, Sales of Samsung and Apple tend to improve strongly compared to the stability of Nokia and the decline of Motorola and Ericsson.
