VIDEO WATCHING ( 30 POINTS)

1. Watch the video “TEDxDiliman - Lourd de Veyra - Art, Art Ka Diyan!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4CIR_nzMZA

After watching, answer the guide questions: (5 - 10 sentences each)

1. Do you agree on the point of view presented in the video? Why or why not? (5 pts.)
 Even though Lourd de Veyra make a good point, I think he can explain his
perspective about art in a better way. It’s seen by people as a criticism but his goal is
not to criticize art. Instead, it challenge us on how we can change our society
through art. Art can change the society, for example a song or a movie even a poem
can change one’s perspective about a certain thing. Even the smallest things can
make a huge difference too. We just have to allow it to change us, and if we want to
change let it be for the better.
2. How does the video satirically reverse the statement “Art can change the society”? (5
pts.)
 He made the documentary comedic yet factual. He prove his side with facts. He also
stated his own opinion to support the facts. He didn’t put it as straightforward instead
he use sarcasm for it to be fun yet true. He didn’t said that art can’t change society
but he wants the viewers to think how can it affect us.
3. As mentioned in the video, “No poem has ever stopped a tank” , explicate its
meaning and how it will possibly affect arts and artists. (5 pts.)
 To elucidate “No poem has ever stopped a tank”, it simply means that no poem
stopped the war in the colonization eras. In every situation, there are many
perspective that we can and cannot see, we just need to find another angle to see it
and it’s up to us if what we’re going choose. A poem literally can’t really stop a tank
from attacking. But despite of that, Jose Rizal, our national hero wrote novels. Which
in another perspective, those novels didn’t stop the war but it gave people inspiration
to fight and be willing to die for their country.
4. Given an opportunity to respond in the video, compose your reaction, question and
reply. Show your conviction and creativity by using hashtag and meme. (5 pts. for reply/
10 pts. for meme)
 This documentary may be an eye-opener or an argument. But as I am free to
respond, art can be and cannot be appreciated by everyone. Art itself do not please
people to give them value. Still, let’s respect each other’s perspectives about this
certain topic. For one to appreciate art is not our
choice to make and everyone has a freedom to do so. #ArtIsFreedom
