Design challenge: How might we provide

healthier food options for people in need?
Theme: There is minimum to low supply of healthy food products to the locals

Insight: There is little incentive for distribution by suppliers to supply locals

with trust

How might we incentivize food distributions in low income neighborhoods.

 . Provision of seedlings and training of locals minimize the spending(cost)
How might we provide clean, healthy and nutritious food in the community at a
reduced cost.

Describe the idea:

Providing the community with seedlings and training so that they can grow or
cultivate the food products by themselves.
Title: Hussein
Age:28 years
Profession: grocery vendor
Other description: father of 2 children
Title: Awareness
Hassan heard an advertisement on radio about a new practice of introducing
kitchen garden to local people. This new service is called “jilimie”. This practice is
unique because every member who will be registered will be given startup
seedlings and crop incentives including financial assistance so that he/she can
cultivate and produce for themselves the food products instead of going to the
market

Title: Initial Introduction
He then found out that at the chief’s office there is training for the advertised
practice and it’s also the pickup point for the free seedlings and crop incentives for
the actual startup. Hassan goes ahead and attend the meeting where he is together
with others he is trained and given some seedlings to start on his own at home.

practice and now decides to go and purchase the seedlings and crops which are
available at a reduced price at the chief’s office.

Title: Loyalties
Each and every time Hassan introduces new member in the kitchen garden project,
he is awarded with a free seedling refill at no charge.
How will the idea of supplying the community with seedlings have impact on the
challenge you are addressing?
We found out that the locals did not have sufficient funds to carter for both
purchasing and transporting the healthy food stuffs from the market on a regular
basis. The idea of providing the locals with seedlings will enable them to have their
kitchen garden in which they will grow some basic foodstuff which will in turn
cutoff the overhead costs that come with transportation and purchasing from the
market .it might also enable them to avoid a lot of chemical that are being used in
apt agriculture.
