Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Grade V Mathematics

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the session students are expected to:

 Draw a circle
 Identify the parts of circle
 Appreciate the usefulness of circle in real life situation

I. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Circle and its parts

II. PROCEDURE
ACTIVITY

Priming Activity

Organize Me!

Direction: The group will divide into two, the group A and group B. Arrange the scramble letter to
form geometry words and paste it on the board. The first one to finish will declare as winner.

SUIDAR TERMEDIA DRCHO TANSEC

Main Activity

Activity No.1

Group A: Cut a big circle and fold into equal parts then mark the center of the circle with an X,
the top of the endpoint will mark A and the bottom endpoint of the fold will mark as B and two
sides of the circle will a C and D.

Group B: Fold a circle into two equal parts at the top end point of the fold, mark E and the
bottom will mark F and the two side of the circle will mark G and H don’t forget to mark X in the
center.

Activity No.2

Direction: Draw the circle you made on the board and identify each parts of the circle.
Group A

C X D

B
Group B
E

G X H

ANALYSIS

1. Based on your activity what have you notice?

2. How did you identify the parts of the circle?
3. What are the parts of circle?
4. Is it too hard for you to identify the parts?
5. What parts did you easily identify?

ABSTRACTION

Circle- A circle is the set of all points in the plane that are the same distance away from a
specific point, called the center. The center of the circle below is point X

Diameter- The diameter of a circle is a line segment that passes through the center of the circle
and has its endpoints on the circle. All the diameters of the same circle have the same length.

Chord - is a line segment with both endpoints on the circle. The diameter is a special chord that
passes through the center of the circle. The diameter would be the longest chord in the circle.

Radius- of the circle is a line segment from the center of the circle to a point on the circle. The
plural of radius is radii.
Arc - can be measured in degrees.

Tangent- is a line that touches a circle at only one point. A tangent is perpendicular to the
radius at the point of contact. The point of tangency is where a tangent line touches the circle.

Circumference- the circumference of a circle is the measure of the distance around the outside
edge of a circle.

APPLICATION

Individual activity

A. Direction: Construct a circle with the following conditions

1. With center O
2. With radii OP and OQ
3. With diameter PQ
4. With chord PR

B. Explain. How circle used in real life?

III. EVALUATION

Direction: Write the true if the statement is correct. If not, write False.

________1. The diameter of the circle, twice the length of the radius

________2. The longest chord in a circle is the diameter.

________3. A circle is labeled by its center point.

________4. The vertex of the central angle is the center of the circle.

________5. Every diameter intersects the circle in exactly two points.
