ASSIGNMENT 3

Case: Sueppel Case

First, he beat his 42-year-old wife Sheryl to death with a baseball bat. He took his four adopted children – Ethan,
10, Seth, 8, Mira, 6, and 3-year-old Eleanor – to the garage and tried to poison them with carbon monoxide. When
that didn't work, he beat them to death the same way as their mother.

Sueppel drove to a nearby park and unsuccessfully tried to kill himself. He then called 9-1-1 directing police to
go to his address, but instead of turning himself in peacefully, he then drove his car into a concrete pillar on
Interstate 80 and died.

A family annihilator can be anyone in the family who murders most, if not all, members of their immediate
family. Mass murders are tragic crimes to begin with, but when a person wipes out their entire family it can be
utterly devastating. Just like in Sueppel’s case; He committed this crime because he was charged with embezzling
over $500,000 from his bank. He pleaded not guilty and was out on bail when sometime during the night of March
23 and the morning of March 24, 2009 Sueppel decided that this was the end of the line for his family. His feeling
of losing hope and help made him a criminal and urged him to do that horrible decision. According to
Reproductive System & Sexual Disorders (RSSD) current research, In general, males seem to be more impulsive
than females. Behavioral measures provide some evidence for sex differences in trait impulsivity: males
experience greater difficulty in controlling their inappropriate behaviors than females. This goes to show that men
has more capacity to act upon emotions.

But on the other side, let’s also consider that some females have this kind of capability to be more
impulsive than men since women are known to be more sensitive and emotional. Females can commit crimes too,
some of them even done the most horrifying crimes. Mostly because of their upbringing, same with men. But
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, males experienced higher victimization rates than females for all
types of violent crime except rape or other sexual assault. In 2014, more than 73% of those arrested in the US
were males. Hence, I firmly conclude that Sueppel’s case is just one proof that people tend to decide based on
their impulsive reaction or emotions. This may come into psychological aspects too but human are capable of
deciding for their own and make it into action. Standing in your choice takes a lot of courage but if you feel
overwhelmed and frustrated, you could do something that you might regret afterwards.
