Technology is constantly evolving and society continues to
increasingly rely on it. Due to this continual demand for
technological mastery, education is starting to mainstream it into
the classroom. Technology helps promote enhanced learning
environments for students (Roblyer & Hughes, 2019).
Current Technology Trends
YouTube
YouTube is a video-sharing program
(Roblyer & Hughes, 2019, p. 248).
Google Meet
Google Meet is a videotelephony program
and online chats service developed by
Google.
SeeSaw
SeeSaw is a secure photo-sharing site
where students can post work and find
lesson activities (Roblyer & Hughes, 2019,
p. 248).
Current Technology Advantages
YouTube
Youtube provides students with the
ability to create content and research
information as well as provide
opportunities for students to
collaborate with peers and teachers,
and promotes a digital portfolio
(Roblyer & Hughes, 2019)
Google Meet
This video meeting program allows
for easy access to video calls for
educators and students.
SeeSaw
SeeSaw can be used to "assemble
evidence of learning activities for parent
viewing as well as a digital portfolio for
students" (Roblyer & Hughes, 2019, p.
248-258).

Virtual Field Trips
Virtual Field Trips are "visits" and
"trips" individuals can experience using
online sites (Roblyer & Hughes, 2019,
p. 439).
AR
Augmented Reality (AR) technology is
a "technology that combines virtual
information with the real world" (Chen
et al., 2019, p. 2).

Virtual Field Trips provide low
socioeconomic students access to
museums, archaeological sites,
and countries they would
normally not have access to
(Roblyer & Hughes, 2019, p.
439). Students have excellent
information and visuals at a low
cost as well as higher student
safety (Lawrence, 2017).
AR
AR technology has already been
applied to many fields providing
enhanced information to these fields.
AR has also been integrated using
current technology such as "mobile
phone cameras, screen software, and
other technological means." This
allows universal access to AR
technology (Chen et al., 2019, p. 5).

YouTube Virtual Field

Due to the unlimited access to
videos, music, etc. illegal
downloading and use of these
resources has seemingly increased.
This misuse of resources places the
responsibility of teaching digital
citizenship and ethics to students
onto educators (Roblyer & Hughes,
2019). Further, a reliable internet
source is needed, which can be an
issue of equitability among
students.
Google Meet
To use this application, one
must have available internet and
a web camera. For school
districts with lower
socioeconomic students or lower
finances, this can create an
issue. Moreover, video
programs lack personable
communication, which can
potentially be disengaging.
SeeSaw
Digital portfolios require
constant updating. The steps to
upload work can also be long
and stressful. A photo needs to
be taken and uploaded.
Uploading requires adequate
internet and time, which not
every student has.
Trips
While virtual field trips
decrease cost and safety
concerns, the tactile experience
is missed (Lawrence, 2017).
Moreover, not everyone has
access to computers and the
internet. Virtual Field Trips rely
heavily on someone else
uploading content, updating the
website, and making sure
technology glitches do not
occur.
AR
AR is still in development. AR
can currently only use small
amounts of information. This
limited amount of information
can cause an incomplete
understanding of a particular
environment AR is being
applied to. AR is also
unavailable to most individuals
due to expense (Chen et al.,
2019, p. 6).
