The Place where I Belong

CAGAYAN DE ORO

INTRO

Cagayan de Oro has really nice and nature-lush parks in the middle of the city, more than a reason
enough to reconnect with nature since people don’t need to go outside the city just to view and
experience tall trees and beautiful flora. The city also has its share of historical and cultural museums.
They may not be comparable to the large museums in Manila, but they’re enough to contain the
remnants of the city’s history and cultural heritage. These museums are priceless for historians tasked
with piecing together the city’s unique history and background that isn’t normally learned in the
classrooms. Hopefully this video will encourage you to spend at least a day or two to visit the different
museums and famous parks in Cagayan de Oro.

City Museum of Cagayan de Oro

If you have an interest in history, this museum is worth a visit. They provide good photos and written
history of Cagayan de Oro. There are not many artefacts to see besides the building itself, but still
gives a good sense of the history of the area.

Gaston Park

Gaston Park was the main plaza of Cagayan de Misamis during the Spanish colonial period. It
served as the training ground of local patriots during the Philippine-American War. And It is one
of the many famous landmarks in the city.

The museum of three cultures

Located at the Capitol University, the museum holds a fascinating cultural archive of Northern Mindanao
and Butuan. It contains a vast array of artifacts of the Manobo and Higaonon cultural traditions, which
includes art objects, ceramics, photographs and even furnishing of old sultans' homes.

Museo de Oro

Museo de Oro, an attraction inside the Xavier University Campus, houses a significant collection
of artifacts found in nearby Huluga cave. The museum has three floors with displays ranging
from pre-historic items, Chinese pottery, memorabilia from World War II, paintings from Filipino
artists, and items from the Spanish and Japanese era. One of the main features of the museum
is its collection of items — jewelry, clothing, and weaponry — that gives visitors a glimpse of
the life of Mindanao’s tribal people. If you want to go on a history trip while in Cagayan de Oro,
Museo de Oro is the place to be.
Vicente de Lara Park (formerly McArthur Park)

Vicente de Lara Park formerly named Mc Arthur Park is a popular jogging area during the
morning situated in front of the Provincial Capitol of Misamis Oriental building with age-old
mahogany trees that provide a therapeutic canopy for the promenades. A Press Freedom
Monument and the Heritage Monument of Misamis Oriental designed by national artist Eduardo
Castrillo can also be found in this redevelopment park.
