COURSE & SEC: BSCE – 2A AUGUST 29, 2021

PROFESSOR: ENGR. ROMERO SANTOS
FIELDWORK NO. 1
TITLE: Pacing
Objective:
1. Determine the individual pace factor
2. Measure a distance using pace factor
Procedure:
1. Measure and establish a 50-meter line on the ground and mark each end with a line, and call the
starting line as “A” and the end line as “B”.
2. Along this established line, walk casually from A to B and record the number of paces. Then, again
walk casually from B to A and record again the number of paces. Do this casual walking and recording of
paces for five (times).
3. Compute your own pace factor (PF) by dividing the distance 50 meters by the mean or average of the
paces.

TRIALS LINE NO. OF PACE

1 A–B 85.6

2 B–A 83.75

3 A–B 84.2

4 B–A 81.1

5 A–B 85.2

TOTAL 419.85

MEAN = TOTAL NUMBER OF PACE/NUMBER OF TRIALS

85.6 + 83.75 + 84.2 + 81.1 + 85.2
𝜇= = 83.97
5

PACE FACTOR = LINE DISTANCE/MEAN

50𝑚
𝑃𝐹 = = 0.59𝑚
83.97

DISTANCE = PACE FACTOR*NO. OF PACE

𝐷𝐼𝑆𝑇𝐴𝑁𝐶𝐸 = 0.59𝑚 × 83.97 = 49.5423𝑚
