Normal Probability Distribution

Answer # 1

In statistics, it is the numerical calculation of the value in connection to the average. We

can calculate the z-score by moving the standard deviation (sigma) away from the mean (meu).

Answer # 2

The purpose of z-score is to compare different things having different scales as long as

they are normally distributed.

Answer # 3

It will be on the left-hand side of the mean on the graph. Z-score of ‘-3’ is rare and it

indicates that the measuring value is 3 standard deviation below the mean. This z-score of ‘-3’ is

rare as it too far below the mean or average

Answer # 4

When z = -1.23, the probability of looking at the z-table is 0.1093. On the other hand

when z = 1.23, the probability looking at the z-table is 0.8907.

Answer # 5

When z = -2, the probability of looking at the z-table is 0.0228. On the other hand when z

= 2, the probability looking at the z-table is 0.9772.

When z = -1, the probability of looking at the z-table is 0.1587. On the other hand when z

= 1, the probability looking at the z-table is 0.8413.

Normal Probability Distribution 3

Answer # 6

In previous question, First pair was (-2 , 2) and second pair was (-1 , 1). The calculations

are as under:

First Pair

Probability (z = -2) = 0.0228

Probability (z = 2) = 0.9772

Probability (z = -2) + Probability (z = 2) = 0.0228 + 0.9772 = 1.

Second Pair

Probability (z = -1) = 0.1587

Probability (z = 1) = 0.8413

Probability (z = -1) + Probability (z = 1) = 0.1587 + 0.8413 = 1.

Each time we add the probabilities of each pair, we got a result of ‘1’. The reason behind this

result of ‘1’ is that the entire area under the curve of z score normal distribution is 100% or 1.

Properties of Standard Normal Probability Distribution

 Distribution is bell-shaped and symmetrical along the y-axis.

 Mean = 0 and Standard deviation = 1 for the distribution.

 Mean, median and mode are equal for the distribution.
