Angle pairs are called that because
they always appear as two angles
working together to display some
unusual or interesting property.

Complementary angle pairs add to 90°. These pairs
do not have to be touching to be complementary. Any
two angles that sum to 90° are complementary angle
pairs

Complementary angle pairs add to 90°. These pairs
do not have to be touching to be complementary. Any
two angles that sum to 90° are complementary angle
pairs
Formula:
m∠1 + m∠2 = 90°

EXAMPLE 1: Find the m∠CAD.

m∠BAC + m∠CAD = 90°

45° + m∠CAD = 90°
m∠CAD = 90° - 45°
m∠CAD = 45°

m∠STR + m∠QTR = 90°

28° + m∠QTR = 90°
m∠QTR = 90° - 28°

m∠1 + m∠2 = 90°

26° + (x + 10)° = 90°
36° + x = 90°
x = 90° - 36°
x = 54°

66° + (2x)° = 90°
2x = 90° - 66°

Supplementary angles need not be linear pairs. They
just have to add to 180°. They do not have to share a

m∠BAC + m∠CAD = 180°

77° + m∠CAD = 180°
m∠CAD = 180° - 77°
