SUMMATIVE TEST 1
1. A Function is a relation where each element in the domain (x-values) is paired to only one
value in the range (y-values) by some rule.
2. A Relation is a rule that relates values from a set of values (called the domain) to a set of values
(called the Range).
3. In mapping, a function can be identified, if for every domain or input is paired exactly with one
range or output.
4. In ordered pairs, a function can be identified, if the abscissa or x-values are all unique.
5. In table of Values, a function can be identified, if the abscissa or x-values are all unique.
6. In graphing, a graph represents a function if and only if each vertical line intersects the graph
at most once.
7. In an equation, a function can be identified if there is a 𝑦 variable even in the absence of x-
variable.
8. To evaluate functions, substitute the input (the given number or impression) for the function’s
variable (place holder, x). Replace the x with the number or expression.
9. Like terms (similar terms) are terms with the same variable and exponents.
10. Unlike terms are terms with either the variable, exponent or both variable and exponents are
different.
