SOCIAL MEDIA IN OUR SOCIETY

Focus of Reflection:

“What will happen in the future of Media?”. Time passed by, I have noticed the drastic changes
occurred as such advances and rapid expansion of the internet. I thought of a future of how will the
world living in the future, how accurate and timely will it be the news reporting in media upgraded
from a biased and non-factual newspaper.

Reflection:

I personally have seen the old times where people living a life before the internet, cables, and
satellite. We use old CD’s, reading newspaper, delivering letters through mails, etc. Suddenly we
are entertained to a newly release television, where all the content was News reporting, the more
controversial the news is the more the more people will watch the news, perhaps reachable for
those who have television other than newspaper. I think most news are unbiased, they’re just
reporting more negative events happening since it is controversial, none of it reports something
futuristic, idealistic, optimistic, and intuitive. Suddenly internet came and the mass media expanded
in a tremendous change, broadcasting now have a wide range of platforms to reach every people
that can access social media. But only few can realize how truthful or fraud the information we
receive in our very own devices. I personally experience fear, just because of feeling unsafe in
social media, every topic we talked about or searched google and in facebook, suddenly appears
to our newsfeed and kept feeding us with that certain topic it relates to, for example I searched
about the controversy of Jamill, then my social media will be bombarded with JaMill issues. I think
this way they collect information and cultures of the users in social media. In addition to this, they
are earning money by continuing this issues and some of us will wait for the further updates of their
issues until they will become trending in all of social media. Idolization triggered some of us who
are idolized JaMill because of their contents and continuing to support them. JaMill issues also
affect some of people who are idolizing them, because people nowadays are also affected of the
issues that JaMill’s facing. Social media improved creativity and social awareness for our society
by interacting with other people and sharing new ideas and opinions. On the other hand, social
media has influenced our culture in negative ways. People can share whatever they want to on
social media and some of them might be inappropriate pictures.
