Ray communicated with him by writing his questions and responses on a notepad kept onn
the counter.

The ordinary watch had great powers to change the fate of the two men who were
to rob the shop. It planning
prevented them from committing their first crime. And so, it saved themn
from a life of guilt, crime and
debauchery. With the money that the man had received from
Ray in
exchange for the watch, he could easily meet his needs without becoming a criminal.

The fact that Ray loaned the
money to the men in their time of need could have caused a
change of heart in the man. It is quite possible that they would come back to pick up the
watch later.

The unfriendly face" of the visitor turned truly friendly when he received
fifty dollars for
his old watch. He thanked Ray, and wished him a merry Christmas. He
promised to come
back for his watch. He felt gratitude towards Ray for helping him out
