Description: Duetriom is a card game, for two players. It contains strategic and random
elements.

Goal: To build a winning formation in your own territory or to build a losing formation in your
opponent’s territory.

Elements:

 Duetriom contains forty cards that can be divided in the following ways:
o 20 winning cards and 20 losing cards.
o 10 groups of 4 cards, each group with a different effect.
 The game area of Duetriom is composed by two territories. One territory for each
player.
o Each territory is composed by three rows of three houses and three columns
of three house, totalizing nine houses in a 3x3 structure.

Concepts:

 Turn: The game flows in alternated turns. The turn has the following structure:
o The player draws a card from the draw pile.
o The player plays a card.
o The effect of the card is performed.
o If after the card effect, there is no losing or winning formation, the turn of the
other player has start.
 Hand: The term hand is used to assign cards that are with a player and that are occult
from the opponent. The player begins the game with three cards that compose his
starting hand. After that, draws a card per turn and plays a card per turn. So, it keeps
the quantity of three cards in his hand having four cards in the moment before he
plays the card of the turn.
 Game area: Space where the game happens. It is constituted of two territories, one of
each player.
 Territory: Each player has a territory composed by nine houses arranged in three rows
and three columns forming a square of 3x3 structure. When a card is played, it is
placed in one of the nine houses of one of the two territories.
 Type of card: The forty cards of Duetriom game are divided in ten groups of four cards.
So, there are ten types of cards.
 Draw pile: It is the pile of cards from where is drawn the starting hand of each player
and from where the players draw a card per turn.
 Discard pile: It is the pile where are placed the cards that leave the game area and the
cards that are discarded from the players’ hands.
 Formation: To realize a formation means to build three cards of same type in a row,
column or in one of the diagonals of one of the game territories. There are four cards
of each type.
 Winning card: Winning card is that one if arranged in formation which two others of its
same type in one of the two territories does that the player of that territory wins the
game. There are twenty winning cards divided in five types.
 Losing Card: Losing Card is that one if arranged in formation which two other of its
same type in one of the two territories does that the player of that territory loses the
game. There are twenty losing cards divided in five types.
 Winning Formation: Formation composed by winning cards of the same type.
 Losing Formation: Formation composed by losing cards of the same type.

Start of the match

 In the beginning of the match, all the forty cards are shuffled by a player. After, the
deck is cut by another player. Each player receives three cards.
 It is randomly decided who will begin the match playing the first turn.
 In the beginning of the turn, the player draws a card.
 After that, the player plays a card. To play a card is place it in one of the eighteen
houses in the game area, nine in each territory. After played and placed in the game
area, the card performs an effect.
 Following that, the other player turn begins. The turns are alternated until that there is
a winner.

General Rules

 In the beginning of a turn, the player draws a card.

 After drawing, the player plays a card. It can be played in his territory or in his
opponent territory, regardless of the card type.
 When it is placed in a house, a card performs an effect.
 After the conclusion of the cards effect played in one turn, it must be checked if there
was built a winning or losing formation. In the case it has happened, the game ends.
Otherwise, the another player turn has start.
 If after the conclusion of an effect, a winning formation was built in a player’s territory,
that player wins the game.
 If after the conclusion of an effect, a losing formation was built in a player’s territory,
that player loses the game.
 The cards that leave the game area are placed in the discard pile. There are effects
that can make cards from the players’ hands be placed in the discard pile.
 When a draw pile ends, the discard pile is shuffled and it is placed as a new draw pile.
 Draw situations:
o If after the conclusion of an effect, a winning formation was built in a player’s
territory and another winning formation was built in the other player’s
territory, the result of the match is draw.
o If after the conclusion of an effect, a losing formation was built in a player’s
territory and another losing formation was built in the other player’s territory,
the result of the match is draw.
o If in a same player territory, there are at same time, a winning and a losing
formation, the result of the match is draw.
 If in the draw situations above, there are, one more winning or losing
formation, still that way, the match results in draw.
 If the draw situations above, occurs at same time, the match still
results in draw.
 If the discard pile is being shuffled for the formation of a new draw
pile for the fifth time, the match results in draw.
 The played cards stay in the game area. Their location can be changed by effects of
new played cards and they also can leave the game area by effects of new played
cards.
 Each house can be occupied by only one card. That way, the maximum number of
cards in one territory is nine and the maximum number of cards in the game area is
eighteen.
 While there are free houses in a territory, a player who wish play a card in that
territory must play the card in one of the free houses.
 If all the houses of a territory are occupied, the player can play a card in one of these
houses, in this case, the card that was previously in that house is placed in the discard
pile. The effect of the new played card is performed as usual.
 If all the houses of one territory are occupied, that does not obligate the player to play
his card in the other territory. But, if in a territory there are free houses, he cannot
play in occupied houses of that territory.
 A formation is always built by cards of same type. There are 10 types of cards. Besides
types, cards are also divided in winning or losing.
 Three cards of same type, in the same territory, aligned in a row, column or diagonal,
compose a formation.
 Three winning cards aligned, but of different types do NOT compose a formation.
 Three losing cards aligned, but of different types do NOT compose a formation.

The cards

 The cards of type 2; 4; 6; 8 and 10, in other way, the even ones, are winning cards. If
there were three of the same type aligned in a player’s territory, that player wins the
game. The winning cards are referred in the cards texts by circle cards.
 Three losing cards aligned but of different types do not compose a formation and do
not imply in any special situation.
 Three winning cards aligned but of different types do not compose a formation and do
not imply in any special situation.
