WRITING TASK 2

ĐỀ 18.

It is suggested that everyone should has a car, a TV and a fridge. Do the disadvantages of this
outweigh the advantages?

It goes without saying that almost everyone wants to have some materialistic things such as a car, a
television and a refrigerator in order to make life more comfortable. Although these commodities
have many benefits, I believe that in the long-term, the disadvantages will eclipse the advantages.

To begin with, there are some merits to having a car, a fridge and a TV in the life. First of all, they
raise an individual’s standard of living and make it more convenient. For instance, a car allows
people to travel to wherever they want and reach their destination in a short time without any
difficulty. In addition, the refrigerator helps to preserve food longer and avoid being stale. Another
advantage is that the television is a great source of news and education.

On the other hand, I think that the above benefits are outweighed by their disadvantages. First and
foremost, the consumption of cars causes many environmental pollutions. Exhaust emissions from
them are contributing to the rise of global warming and affecting people’s health. For example, in
many big cities in the world, urban citizens are suffering from respiratory diseases due to poor air
quality. Moreover, it is a proven fact that refrigerators release CFCs which can lead to the depletion
of ozone layer. Furthermore, the growing use of television can also contribute to sleep difficulties,
behavior problems, lower grades, and other health issues such as obesity.

In conclusion, despite having some beneficial aspects, the drawbacks of these things outweigh the
advantages.
