Artifact Name: Science Fair Project- The use of multimedia software for the creation of
a linear slide show of a multimedia science fair project.

What you learned:

I learned about inserting videos into the slides as well as uploading photos and the use
of word art. I also had a refresher on the scientific method and I learned how to make
magnetic slime. I had to play around with the sheets program to get the bar graph set
up properly. I learned the difference between rare-earth magnets and ceramic magnets.
This assignment brought back so many memories of helping my kids with their science
projects and how the software we use now would have made it so much easier.

ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for STUDENTS (NETS)•S

Addressed:
Standard #3 3d: Students build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and
problems, developing ideas and theories and pursuing answers and solutions.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future:

I think that this is how all science fair projects should be done now. The students can
upload videos of the actual process and results of their project directly into the slide
show presentation. No need to buy poster board and stay up printing out pictures and
cutting out information to glue onto the board. The student can store their data on a
spreadsheet and keep a log of what they are doing as well as download and label
pictures of the process. This could be used for documenting participation and results of
science labs in class. As a teacher, I think this would be a better way to grade projects
than going through stacks of paper packets.
