Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 3

I. Objectives

At the end of the synchronous learning discussion, the students should be able to:

1. Identify the three phases of matter / describe the characteristics of the three phases of
matter
2. Perform the knowledge about phases of matter in their activity
3. Follow properly the safety rules in their activity

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Phases of Matter

Do you remember the last time we discussed? What was
your lesson last time

Very good so now let’s proceed to our new lesson

analyze it’s all about
solid, liquid and gas

If you observe various objects, you will see that matter exist in
various forms called phases. The phases of stone differ from those
of water or air. Matter exists in three phases: solid, liquid and gas.

A. Lesson Proper
Now, let’s start our discussion.
(The students are
Phases of Matter
listening)
The states in which matter can exist: as a solid, liquid, or gas.
When temperature changes, matter can undergo a phase change,
shifting from one form to another. Examples of phase changes are
melting (changing from a solid to a liquid), freezing (changing from
a liquid to a solid), evaporation (changing from a liquid to a gas),
and condensation (changing from a gas to a liquid).

What are the characteristic of solids?

 A solid has a definite shape and volume.

(The students are

listening)

A stone is a solid. A book, a block of wood, and a piece of chalk are

solids, too. A material is solid if it is has a difinite size and definite
shape. Solids keep their size and shape. We can hold solids in our
hands.

What are the characteristics of Liquids?

 Liquids it has a definite volume but no definite shape. (The students are
 listening)

Water is a liquid. Water flows; it has no define shape. It follows

the shape of its container. Water in a round glass is round. Water
in a square dish is square. But volume of water(its amount) satays
the same no matter where it is placed. In experiments we use a
graduated cylinder to measure the volume of water. A material is
a liquid if it has a difine volume but no defite shape. We cannot
hold it in our hands. It flows and falls in drops

What are the characteristics of Gases?
Gas is a phase of matter that has neither a difinite sahe nor a
definite volume.

(The students are

listening)

Air is gaas. Air no definite shape and no definate volume. Any

material that no define shape or volume is a gas. Other gases are
smoke, water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.

“Before we end our discussion and proceed to our activities, who

among you have a questions or clarifications?”

B. Application
“So as I discuss earlier we have a phase of matter a solid,
liquid and gas. So now you are going to answer those
questions.”
Direction: Circle the letter of the correct answer. Write it
on your paper.

1. What phase of matter does not have definite shape nor

volume
a. Solid
b. Liquid
c. Gas
d. All of the above
2. Which is true of both solids and liquids?
a. They have a definite shape
b. They have a definite volume
c. They do not have a definite shape
d. They do not have a definite volume
3. In what phase does gasoline exist?

c. Water vapor
d. All of the above
C. Generalization
Now class, let us have a picture puzzle. As you can see, I have here
3 envelopes. Inside it is the picture that you are going to form and
analyze each picture if it is solid, liquid or gas.
I will divide you into three groups. Each group will have one
envelopes to form.
I will give you 5 minutes to do that.
Is it clear?
So now class you may proceed to your group
Student: yes ma’am

Envelop 2 (group 2)

Group 2: present
their liquid form

D.Evaluation
“Before we move on to our last activity, who among you have a
questions?”
Ok if you don’t have any question, class get your activity booklet
and let’s proceed to our last activity on Pg.137
Direction: Write your answer in the blank. S for solid, L for liquid Students: none
and G for gas Ma’am

1. Rock
2. Baloon with air
3. Juice
4. Milk
5. Beer
(The students will
6. Oxygen
answer the given
7. Cloth
task)
8. Smoke
9. Paper
10. Wood

E. Assignment
Observe on your home a things or object that example of solid,
liquid and gas write it on your assignment notebook and we will
check it tomorrow.
