Task:
1. Choose the best instructional material in this time of the pandemic.
2. Explain why is it relevant in the teaching-learning process.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a huge challenge to education systems not only in the Philippines but also in different
countries of the world. Since restrictions and health protocols have been established, distant learning is the current method
we’ve been used since the start of the pandemic. Just as institutions take steps to inform, reassure and maintain contact
with students and parents, they must also ramp up their ability to teach remotely. Teachers are giving their best and full
attention in reassuring students’ learning.
For me the best instructional material in this pandemic time is the combination of Self-Learning Kit instructional
materials and instructional video. The SLK is a tool that enhances learning and develops creativity through manipulative
processes and thinking skills. It also relates the lesson to the real world and develops self-confidence in the subject among
the students. In the recent video I’ve watched in an online platform about this kind of instructional material, I learned that
our government and educational institutions are supporting Self-Learning Kit (SLK). As the Department of Education
(DepEd) further emphasizes, SLK is an innovative tool meeting the standards of the K-12 Curriculum in providing the
teachers and learners relevant and localized content. It is a supplemental learning resource (SLR) originally made,
produced, modified, or contextualized by a teacher. It is a simplified and modularized form of learning material consisting
of systematically sequenced materials for learning. In short, it is a simplified module aligned to the needs of the learners
using it. And I would suggest that if this learning kits is accompanied by educational videos with instructions and well
explained material, I think this can help the learners to gain knowledge effectively.
It is more important than trying to learn new pedagogy or technology on trend. The most important adjustment,
for those used to teaching in classrooms in real time, is to take advantage of asynchronous learning. For most aspects of
learning and teaching, the participants do not have to communicate simultaneously. Asynchronous working gives teachers
flexibility in preparing learning materials and enables students to juggle the demands of home and study. Asynchronous
learning works best in digital formats. Teachers do not need to deliver material at a fixed time: it can be posted online for
on-demand access and students can engage with it using applications, blogs, and e-mail to suit their schedules. Creating an
asynchronous digital classroom gives teachers and students more room to breathe. For me instructional videos can also
help by using or presenting our students with various instructional materials like Self-Learning Kit with creative designs
of representations that depends on what subject is going to teach and this can easily adapt in various topic.
Similarly, video lessons are usually more effective—as well as easier to prepare—if they are short (5‒10
minutes). And if we mixed it with Self-Learning Kit I think this would beneficial to learners in the way as the learners use
SLK in modularized forms may intensify their interaction with the said material, instigating further self-directed learning
experiences for them. In this sense, they may develop further self-management in their own pace of learning. For
example, after the students the instructional video with well explained discussion about the topic. The student could
proceed with their SLK to perform task and learned step by step with the help of these instructional materials.
I realized this would not be easy as it gets but all the efforts is worth it if we see our students learned. I know it is
hard but our profession goal is to produce productive and good individual as our country’s future is on the hands of the
next generations. As a future educator, creativity, resourceful, patience and perseverance is the ingredient to accomplish
this different instructional materials.
