Dear Sir,
We have reviewed the test results for Marble Tiles available in the Contract document as per the relevant
standards, and local codes. Presently there is no guidance given by the European Standard Commission
(CEN) for the results of this test. And CEN specifications and standards are in the process of being
compiled.
However, as per our evaluation of the test result with an equivalent ASTEM C 503 test method, the test
result for water absorption fails. ( min requirement 0.2% while test value =1.43%), while Flexural strength
and Compressive Strength tests satisfy the requirements)
Concerning the abrasion test result, in ES3249:2006, there is a correlation between the Wide Wheel
Abrasion Test and Boheme Abrasion Test, with the following relationship, Wide Wheel =
15.3+1.7( Boheme), which means , Boheme = (Wide Wheel-15)/1.7 , therefore our test result in Wide Wheel
Abrasion =27.7 mm, the equivalent Boheme Abrasion test result should be equal to = (27.7-15)/1.7= 7.47
mm3, (volume loss in Boheme method)
ASTM C241/C 241M-09 presents the abrasive hardness value, Ha, is the reciprocal of the volume of material
abraded multiplied by ten.
and confirm that the test results satisfy the requirements set in ES-ISO-10545, for floor coverings with
normal foot wear with small scratching dirt.
Accordingly the contractor is advised to proceed with the supply of the mentioned finishing materials for
the project. It should be noted that there will be testing of product samples in the presence of the
Consultant to witness the material testing and for evaluation and approval of the test results and approval
of size, color and pattern by the Architect before installation of the tiles.
