In the simulation, you will determine an unknown Alkaline Earth Metal Chloride compound
through gravimetric analysis and solution stoichiometry.

Answer the following questions.

1. In order for the gravimetric analysis to be valid, how do you ensure that all of the chloride
ions precipitate? (10 points)

2. What are the reactions involved for the different types of XCl 2 (where X is an alkaline
earth metal) with silver nitrate? How does the number of moles of silver nitrate correlate
to the number of moles of the alkaline earth metal chloride? (20 points)

3. What is the unknown compound? Make a diagram or flowchart and explain the processes
involved to show how you came up with this conclusion. (40 points)
