CHOOSING TARGET MARKET

A target market is the people that a business wanted to sell the product. It is not just in one
area like for instance, Maryhill College. This could go beyond other markets. Due to the covid-19
pandemic, our movements and socializing with others are limited. The researchers chose target
market based on the place they lived in. The areas were Lucena City, Pagbilao and Sariaya all from
Quezon Province. To be more flexible and competitive they needed to pursue selling El Dulces
Puffstillas in nearby places, in their respective places of residence, not with one another. This
challenged the proponents. As entrepreneurs they needed to take the risk for the attainment of goals.
The identification of the target market took 1 week from August 17 to August 23, 2020.

business.
Businesses vary in size, as measured by the number of employees or by sales volume. The

Maryhill College, Inc. 7

are chocolate, macha and mango. These three (3) different flavors would surely bed loved and
enjoyed by the customers. It is not like the traditional pastillas; it is a pastillas with a twist.

SIZE, SCOPE AND NATURE OF MARKET or MARKET SEGMENTS

According to Kotler (2017), market consists of all the potential customers sharing a particular
need or want who might be willing and able to engage in exchange to satisfy their need or want.
Demographic Segmentation – In identifying the target customer of El Dulces Puffstillas,

any individuals that were going to purchase the product.

El Dulces Puffstillas business is competitive in a way because it differs among other brands
of pastillas. Knowing the uniqueness of El Dulces Puffstillas, it stands out from others, an innovated
one, and a pastillas with a twist.

BUSINESS ANALYSIS
It is a part of all businesses big or small, to always face a problem. Though there are a large
number of ventures that offers the same variant of products, El Dulces Puffstillas was also considered
competitive even if the available flavors were few. , so the researchers, the manufacturers and
manpower of the business waited for the stock of the certain product to be available. This affects the
business because it causes a delay, also a delay in earning profit. At first, accepting of orders are only
Maryhill College, Inc. 9

three days a week, but due to high demands El Dulces uffstillas changed it and make it five days a
week. However, through the effort of the team with only three available manpower, El Dulces
’Puffstillas smoothly continued its operation.

FACTORS THAT WILL AFFECT THE MARKET OF THE BUSINESS

For determining the factors that would affect the market of the business, researchers used
PESTLE analysis. It is a strategic management tool used to identify, analyze, organize, and monitor
factors that could have an impact on the business now and in the future. The framework examined
opportunities and threats due to Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental
forces, to inform planning and decision.
PESTLE ANALYSIS
Political factors affect business when the government imposed a law.
They can raise the tax on business establishments also with the value
POLITICAL added tax, this will impact El Dulces Puffstillas profits and pricing of
product.
Consumer behavior, employment and inflation are one of the
economic factors that affect businesses. If these three factors are
ECONOMIC present, it will be challenging for El Dulces Puffstillas to grow in the
market. But in the first place as a business owner they need to
continuously innovate product to determine marketability of El Dulces
Puffstillas in the market.
Social factors could be family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.
Their feedbacks affect El DulcesPuffstillas. They may recommend it if
satisfaction occurred or they may warn them not to purchase El Dulces
SOCIAL Puffstillas if they were not satisfied. As entrepreneur they should focus
on the development on the appearance and taste of El Dulces
Puffstillas so that business continue to satisfy consumer.
Maryhill College, Inc. 12

Technology helps to communicate and reach potential consumer’s way

more easy. Most of the potential consumers are using social media
TECHNOLOGICAL platforms to devour time, so it is an opportunity to offer them El
Dulces Puffstillas.
Legal factors like organizational, employment and consumer laws.
This factor directly affects business. El Dulces Puffstillas was formed
because of general partnership, being liable up to the extent.
LEGAL Employment law with regards to the wages of future employees and
consumer laws to create a legal relationship with costumers. These
factors determined and built the loyalty of future employees and
consumers.
In pestle analysis this factor focused on enhancing and preserving the
environment. This factor affects El Dulces Puffstillas in a good way
because it helps in thinking how to help the environment from proper
ENVIRONMENTAL waste disposal, being aware with the situation of the ecosystem and
green agenda which planting trees by using some funds from JM2 El
Dulces Puffstillas profits. Business helps the environment through
using recyclable materials such as paper box.

POPULATION GROWTH
Population growth is determined by the combination of mortality, fertility, and migration, so
all three processes must be measured if we are to understand what kind of demographic change is
occurring in a given region (Weeks, 2005).
Population growth is one of the key factors to determine business location strategies; since
the location is Padre Burgos, Pagbilao and Lucena City all from Quezon Province, researchers have a
higher target and potential buyers for El Dulces Puffstillas. A greater population means greater
demand but it also means greater supply. Also, as the population increases competitors are more
aggressive in developing their products.

INCOME CHANGES
The income effect may have positive or negative consequences on a small business,
depending on many factors. The income effect relates to how a consumer spends money based on an
Maryhill College, Inc. 13

increase or decrease in his income. An increase in income results in demanding more services and
goods, thus spending more money. A decrease in income results in the exact opposite. In general,
when incomes are lower, less spending occurs, and businesses are hurt by the effect (Investopedia,
2018).
El Dulces Puffstillas is a very affordable product. When income has increased possibly El
Dulces Puffstillas may not be the best choice but, it is an opportunity if the income has decreased
because this product is very affordable yet delicious. In addition, the substitute effect will rise. Instead
of purchasing something expensive, consumers might choose El Dulces Puffstillas because some
customer prefers lower-priced items.

INCREASE AND DECREASE

Economic changes are the reason why there is an increase and decrease in income for El
Dulces Puffstillas. If economy changes the job opportunities may lessen and with that an individual’s
income may change. The opportunities for El Dulces ’Puffstillas business is a risk because there’s a
chance of decline in the market. To survive, businesses offer promos so that the future surplus of
goods may lessen. Just like for the service, they use different marketing strategies to attract more
potentials consumers resulting with the stable income of the business. The market may change
because of demands and supply; if the economy is not ready and there is a sudden decrease in supply
it may also affect the income and purchasing power of every consumer.

MARKET POTENTIAL
Market potential is the entire size of the market for a product at a specific time. It represents
the upper limits of the market for a product. Market potential is usually measured either by sales
value or sales volume (Grimsley, 2013).
El Dulces ’Puffstillas has the market potential because of its uniqueness. It has this unique
taste; it’s just simple but not that ordinary pastillas. There is a filling that really compliments with the
pastillas. That’s the reason why this product is a pastillas with a twist.
PRODUCT
El Dulces Puffstillas can compete in the market. The traditional pastillas has evolved to
flavored pastillas. From plain flavor, researchers decided to innovate and add flavors on it. Aside
from that, the shape is also innovated from classic to circle. The reason why El Dulces Puffstillas
Maryhill College, Inc. 14

was shaped as round because circle represent totality and wholeness. Believing that El Dulces
Puffstillas reached its original perfection which in no time can be known in the market. Focusing not
only with innovation but also making sure that El Dulces Puffstillas is very affordable that many
customers can consume it.

DEMANDS AND USAGE OF TREND IN THE MARKET

To make a feasible product, business entities should first check what the trend is and demand
in the market. Identifying what is the current trend and demand for a product is a great help. Like JM²
O’Puffstillas, with this existing situation consumers demands for a cheaper product. Also, online
selling is a trend. This is an opportunity to share the product through online because most people are
at home and using their gadgets to consume their time.

because of the business goal. Taking into account the marketing strategies, staffing plans and
especially operational plans are the ways to achieve those.

POTENTIAL BUYERS OF THE PRODUCT

Potential buyer refers to a person who may have a reason or benefit to purchase the product.
El Dulces ’Puffstillas is a sweet tasting snack. Everyone can purchase it. The product is very
affordable. El Dulces Puffstillas is suited for everyone. Adult, children and youths can purchase it. No
gender identity or age limits. El Dulces Puffstillas is a product made for everyone to satisfy their

PRODUCT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

El Dulces ’Puffstillas

Mikee’s Store Elijah’s Store

The researchers as manufacturers/producers of El Dulces Puffstillas used the method of direct

selling. Marketing and selling of products were direct to consumers, or producer to retailer to
consumer. As per advised by the government, researchers are not allowed to go outside for safety
purposes, so JM² partnership used the modern direct selling which include one-on-one demonstration,
personal contact arrangement and online selling. This distribution gave control over relationships
with the customers. Using channel of distribution defined as the most efficient and effective way to
place a product into the hands of the customer. The purpose of direct method, channel of
distribution is to bridge the gap between the producer of a product and the user of it. Since El Dulces
Maryhill College, Inc. 16

Puffstillas are in the beginning of business cycle, researchers avoided sharing profits with a third
party distributor. It really helps to lessen other expenses.

MARKETING STRATEGIES OF THE PROPOSED BUSINESS

El Dulces Puffstillas is considered new in the market. Considering that El Dulces Puffstillas
is the best, offering it to target population and wanting to build relationship with JM² potential
consumers are ways to gain their loyalty. In consonance with that, the researchers utilized the
marketing strategy listed below.

El Dulces Puffstillas.
Maryhill College, Inc. 20

PACKAGING

LOGO
Maryhill College, Inc. 26

A logo is much more than just an image. It is a point of recognition for clients and an
important foundation for the branding of a business.
The researchers created a simple yet elegant design of a logo. With its simple design, it would
be easy for the customers to recognize El Dulces Puffstillas. The details of the logo like the circles are
colored with brown, green and yellow which represented the product and its flavors.
Circles are round and soft. It is different than most other shapes. Choosing circle as a logo it
symbolizes continuity. Continues growth would lead to success. There is also a mini rectangular
shape in each side of the logo design which represented rest. Heading towards success is tiring and
challenging so rest is important to comeback stronger for the business goal.

SUSTAINABILITY OF PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY

SUPPLIERS AND PROVIDED OF NEEDED FACILITIES
The researchers purchased supplies from La Suerte Pagbilao, Shoprite, Mayao, and Lucena
Public Market. The items were not that expensive and in good quality. The facilities used are located
in Padre Burgos, Pagbilao and Lucena City all from Quezon Province. The reason why they have
three (3) different facilities is due to the current situation, the Global Pandemic (Covid 19). The
researchers can't stay for long outside the residence area following the rules implemented by LGU’s
and the National Government.

COMPETITIVENESS AND LIMITATION OF THE TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT

According to Sarokin (2019), the downside of technology is distraction, high risk for security,
expensive obsolescence and the creator and destroyer of social boundaries.
Technology and equipment sets an advantage for a business and makes it competitive. Being
equipped with the right technology and equipment business can enter the competitive market. El
Dulces Puffstillas as a microenterprise does not need a high tech equipment, a little manpower is
enough to continue the whole operation. As for technology, El Dulces Puffstillas used the available
and easy used social media platforms. This helped a lot in reaching target consumers and promoted El
dulces Puffstillas. As for its limitation, the relationship of the consumer to the manufacturer was not
that strong.

El Dulces Puffstillas business structure is classified as general partnership being responsible

for all the liabilities and assets that are shared together. As owners of El Dulces Puffstillas, it was
needed to complete all the requirements to officially start the business to make it a legal entity. By
managing the business, researchers took responsibility for the partnership's debts and other
obligations.

FORM OF THE PROPOSED BUSINESS

Partnership is a formal arrangement by two or more parties to manage and operate a business
and share its profits. There are several types of partnership arrangements. In particular, in a
partnership business, all partners share liabilities and profits equally, while in others, partners have
limited liability (Kopp, 2019).
Through general partnership, researchers agreed to bind themselves together and share all
assets, profits, financial and legal liabilities of the business. With partners that are sharing the
responsibilities and workloads, the members were given an opportunity to have more time for the
other activities of their own.

Advantage of partnership:
 Fairly easy to set up and maintain over time.
 Partners can pool their resources to fund the company’s start-up.
 Partners can share the workload and the rewards of the business’s success.
 Being able to offer key employees the potential to one day become a partner in the business
can be a big carrot that encourages them to stay long-term.
 Tax advantages. The profits of a partnership pass through to its owners, who report their
share on their individual tax returns. Therefore, the profits are only taxed once (at the
personal level of its owners) rather than twice, as is the case with corporations, which are
taxed at the corporate level and then again at the personal level when dividends are
distributed to the shareholders.

AVAILABILITY OF MANPOWER
El Dulces Puffstillas has just started, the researchers acting as the capitalist and industrialist.
Just the three of them is the available manpower, they cannot afford to hire employee/s, but the
