4a's Lesson Plan
4a's Lesson Plan
D. Motivation
With the given fundamental identities, provide alternative forms in each of the given identities.
The teacher will give example for the students to get easily the idea of alternative forms.
LESSON PROPER
The teacher will present that trigonometric identities that can be used to evaluate trigonometric
function values.
Present to the class the Guidelines for Verifying Trigonometric Identities:
1. Work with one side of the equation at a time. It is often better to work with the more
complicated side first.
2. Look for opportunities to factor an expression, add fractions, square a binomial, or
create a monomial denominator.
3. Look for opportunities to use fundamental identities.
4. If there is no direct identity that can be substituted to reduce one side to the other,
change everything into sines and cosines.
5. Always try something. Even paths that lead to dead ends give you insights.
A. Activity
The use of fundamental identities to verify trigonometric identities.
1. In this activity, you will work individually in which you are assign according to your row and
column position.
2. You will verify trigonometric identities using fundamental identity and alternative forms.
3. Problems are presented in our power point presentation.
4. You will be given 4 minutes to answer each problem using pentel pen and manila paper.
5. After 4 min, teacher will pick a number of a row and column (R 1C1, R1C2, etc.). Student (e.g.
R3C2) will show his/her output to the class.
B. Analysis
Ask the following questions:
1. How do you find the activity with the use of fundamental identities?
2. What insights did you get out of the activity?
3. What is the use of fundamental identities in verifying identity?
C. Abstraction
1. Gives short lecture - discussion on the important of fundamental identities
2. Reshare the fundamental identity and alternative forms.
D. Application
Present a problem to the class and let the students think critically in answering some problem
that involves trigonometric identities.
EVALUATION
ASSIGNMENT
Use the values sin x =sq.3/2 and cos x = -1/2 to evaluate the remaining trigonometric functions.
