Fe Villanueva del Mundo, (born Fé Primitiva del

Mundo y Villanueva; 27 November 1911 – 6


August 2011). She was a Filipina pediatrician
who was the founder of the first pediatric
hospital in the Philippines. She also
spearheaded the modern child healthcare
system in the. Her studies in pediatrics lived for
eight decades and became the steppingstone
of today’s child health care system.

Dr. Fe del Mundo pioneered the one of the important medical health care
systems especially for the children. She created a way to fully grasp the concept and
frameworks of pediatrics. She authored numerous medical journals and help
diagnosed dengue, malaria, and polio here in the Philippines. There are some
articles (Navarro, 2000) stating that those diagnosis greatly helps in creating
medicine (vaccine) to fight the said outbreaks.

Her most important idea is the ‘incubator’. She used bamboos as an alternative
because there is no electricity in the community where she was during late 40s that
helps every family their and helps sustaining life for infants. The very handy
incubator became an inspiration and gave her different awards and scientific
recognitions.
