The Legacy of Colonel Emmanuel V. De Ocampo

It is the story of the bravest Filipinos of the 20th century during World War II.
When the Japanese invaded the Philippines in 1941, no other country fought back like the Filipinos,
forming an underground army of over 300,000 people. Having a ROTC Training are encouraged to build
strong individual traits such as self-discipline, confidence, and leadership. The training provides students
the opportunity into becoming career officers or returning to civilian life after gaining useful skills and
knowledge from national service. This experience also makes them more informed citizens, with
accurate knowledge of the military's inner workings.

Col. De Ocampo, worked hard to move above his social class and ended
studying in Manila. This was no small accomplishment, but there's more he went to college and joined
the Reserve Officers Training Corps. When World War II broke out, he joined the famous Hunters ROTC
guerrillas and distinguished himself in the line of fire with his leadership, courage, and intelligence. The
Hunters ROTC was a Filipino guerrilla force active during the Japanese colonialization, and it was the
main anti-Japanese guerrilla group active in the area across Manila. Following the end of the Philippine
Military Academy, it was formed. Cadet Terry Adevoso refused just to come back home as advised, but
instead began recruiting fighters prepared to participate in guerilla tactics against the Japanese. His
force provided intelligence to the liberating forces led by General Douglas MacArthur and participated in
multiple battles, such as the battle at Los Baños

My overall reaction to the documentary film I was amazed more by soldiers

of World War II, especially the American soldiers. They returned to the Philippines after committing to
return to help the Filipinos in their battle against the Japanese. But after seeing the documentary film
Legacy of Col. De Ocampo, I was proud and impressed by the Filipino ROTC Hunters who have been
college students during World War II in the 20th century. Because the way we were treated among
Japanese soldiers all through the war, we felt encountered with sadness, frustration, and hatred.

The message of Col. Emmanuel De Ocampo in the last minute of the film
that your life is offered in your own country.
