ITEM DESCRIPTION CHECK (√ or X) COMMENT

A ROUTE LOCATION
1 Data Collection

Check for Arerial Photographs, Topographical Maps, Cadastral Plan

Soils and Geological Maps, Hydrological Information such as tide

level and rainfall information.
2 Design Requirement

Check for road functionality (R1, R2, etc), Cross-section dimensions

(Carriageway width, shoulder width, etc), design speed, road reserve
Design ADT, project duration and other criteria set by client.

3 Field Reconnaisance
Design Engineer to check site condition, land use, socia-Economic
Factor, Borrow source, Geometric requirements, construction cost
and propose for alternatives
4 Soil Investigations
Conduct Geotechnical investigation on existing ground of the
proposed route.
5 Submission of Route Location Report/Conceptual Design)
Check for all Figures(locality plan, proposed alternative, etc), work
programmes and cost estimate

B PRELIMINARY DESIGN
1 Detail Ground Survey

Check that the information from surveyor is sufficient for the design
2 Geometric Design
Check for design requirement (Design speed, typical cross section,
sight distance, minimum radius, superelevation, desirable grade, crest
& sag curve). Check for cut and fill.
3 Pavement Design

Check for design ADT, thickness of subbase, road base, Alsphatic

Concrete Wearing Course and Binder Course. Also check for
gradation of Aggregate, physical and mechanical properties; optimum
binder content etc.
4 Drainage Design
Check for catchment area, soil properties and crop; slope, overland
flow for run off estimation. Check tide level ;velocity for scouring
and siltation and freeboard for culverts and drains. Check Fill height
of culvert, piling requirement, re-bar, concrete.

Check for radius of turning, vehicle type, approach speed etc.

7 Traffic Control Devices

Check directional and traffic sign, pavement marking etc.

8 Relocation of Services
Check for detail of relocation, time of relocation, liase with relevan
authority etc.
9 Accesses to Adjacent Properties
Check for geomerty, location and requirements(visibility, stoping site
distance, grades, culverts etc.
10 Landscaping and Environmental Protection

Check the design will preserve or improve the environment

11 Temporary works or Diversion

Check that the works should cater for uninterupted traffic flow.
