a. Background of the Project

- Dampa is a wet market full of all living and dead great tasting things from the sea. Stalls at the
market are pilled high with an abundance of ultra fresh, squirming goodness. At Dampa, seafood
can be purchased, and immediately cooked. The Dampa experience is quite easy. Just go to the
wet market side of the dampa, buy whatever seafood you like, bring them to a
restaurant/eatery, then instruct how you want it to be cooked. If you’re not the type to go to
the market and do the thing by yourself, you can ask the waiter to do it for you for only a
minimal fee. Dampa is a Filipino word that means “hut.” However, it is most commonly known in
Manila as a place where you can get fresh seafood. It is not your usual restaurant because in
here, the “catch” is you have the liberty to decide which seafood you want, how many, and
(most important) how you want it cooked.

b. Statement of the Problem

- How can the proposed Seafood Market with Casual Restaurant contribute to the people and
improvement of the community?
- How can the proposed Seafood Market with Casual Restaurant developed the community without
damaging the natural ecology?
- How can the proposed Seafood Market with Casual Restaurant improved the economic growth
of the community?
- How can the proposed Seafood Market with Casual Restaurant improved the tourism industry of
the community?
c. Significance of the Project
- The Seafood Market help tell the story of a community. Certain commercial buildings stand out
from others. They become memorable and, in some cases, iconic. Great buildings can generate
more jobs, bring people together, lift housing values in their vicinity, and give people something
to be particularly proud of. Construction of commercial buildings helps bring economic stability
to an area. People generally want to see improvements made to their communities, including
better infrastructure, which includes not only commercial buildings, but roads, pipes, sidewalks
and landscaping.

III. RELATED PROJECTS

–Dampa Seaside in Pasay

Almost like a fusion of wet markets and seafood restaurants, Dampa Seaside is an open area
where you can personally pick your preferred seafood and restaurant for a scrumptious experience.
Interestingly, Dampa Seaside is a famous go-to place not only for the locals but especially among
nonFilipinos. Numerous seafood shops and stalls take refuge on the left side of the short stretch of
pavement while the restaurants dominate the right. Unlike fancy seafood restaurants, Dampa totally
differs in ambiance as it can easily get crowded. You might also need to bring your haggling skills
when buying to get discounts for a bag full of seafood.

-Seafood Restaurant

Baghdad, IQ

With its contemporary Mesopotamian theme and tremendous capacity of 1,100 seats, Seafood
Baghdad is both a sophisticated culinary destination and popular meeting place that caters to a wide
range
of tastes. With its stunning and unique design incorporating eight mammoth aquarium tanks for both
tropical and deep-sea fish, this celebrated restaurant is located in the heart of the Dijlah Village Complex
Three key elements of the
overlooking the impressive scene of the eponymous river. beautiful local served to anchor the design
landscape—the sand, sky, and water— concept for this ambitious restaurant
project. In keeping with the marine theme of Seafood Baghdad, Quark’s team incorporated this latter
element in two strikingly different ways. First, floor-to-ceiling aquarium tanks containing 40 metric tons
of saltwater habitat for myriad kinds of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans serve as walls within the
restaurant’s interior. Second, Quark created an underground stream visible through walkways of
tempered glass flooring—an innovative contrast with standing water in aquarium tanks and an homage
to the Dijlah River just outside. Perhaps the most defining elements of the restaurant, aside from its
famed aquariums and underground waterways, are intricate wooden dividers carved with traditional
Middle Eastern designs that create spaces of privacy, quiet and comfort for guests even on the bustling
dining floor. Custom-designed furniture and decor for this project were carefully selected by Quark
Studio to create a pleasant and cozy environment balanced between contemporary designs and
traditional Middle Eastern elements.

Muttrah Fish Market

Situated at the heart of Muttrah, on Oman’s largest harbor, the new fish market is a tribute to
both the past and the future of Oman. The city of Muttrah is known for its long history of commercial
trade, its characteristic port, and long-standing fishery traditions. Located close to the city’s original fish
market, built in 1960, the new market marks a continuity of the region’s trade and fishing traditions,
while also fulfilling Oman’s need to accommodate for the country’s growing tourism industry.
Merging tradition with innovation, the 4.000 square meter fish market is designed to
sympathetically unite the old and the new. The generous space creates a public meeting space where
local fishermen and worldly tourist from all over the world meet under the same roof. The architectural
concept is inspired by the playful qualities of light and shadow through the shape of a double radial wall
defining the spine of the new fish market. Seen from afar, one can observe how the curved wall relates
to the radial shape of the corniche and the wider bay area, interacting with the street by exposing the
stairs from the roof terraces in the openings along the corniche. Referencing both the former waterfront
and the continuation of the corniche, the fish market defines the boundaries of public space,
interconnecting the city, the mountains, and the waterfront.

IV. DESIGN TRANSLATION

a. Design Philosophy

“ A GREAT ARCHITECT BUILD WITH A GREAT PURPOSE”

One of the most important qualities in designing and being an architect is creativity and
applying principles of science. Architect must share their vision and ideas for a particular design and
convince others of your goals and purpose. Always take your responsibilities and be one of the
contributors of the modernization and progress of our civilization. Focus in all aspects in life even in a
simple details because true greatness consist in being great in little things.

The designer is not the users.

b. Design Strategies and IInnovations

Used glass to create a connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Large windows
provide the perfect opportunity to blend your indoor and outdoor living environments. It can even
incorporate a corner window into a specific area of the restaurant to bring the outdoors. A corner
window not only makes you feel as if you are part of the view, but this spot will most likely become the
highlight of the Seafood Market with Casual Restaurant.

DES 121 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 3 – CREATIVE DESIGN IN ARCHITECTURAL INTERIORS Ar. PBGascon

Tamag, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur 2700

This strategies is inspired by Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, in order to connect the indoor to the
outdoor environment it is necessary to reduce the barrier that blocks the beautiful view
around. This is a big impact for the building since this building is for tourists, these
strategies will connect the indoor and outdoor environment that gives calming and relaxing
experience.
