Architect Mario Bioni Zuzi (UXA), Supervisor at the Laboratory of Architecture and Architectural
Composition I, decided to entrust us with the rendering of a project he was working on. It is the
design solution for a dwelling in Modena’s countryside. June 2008

First project for Five Core group. We were asked to design a building in a residential context, given
the different design parameters (structural mesh, maximum height, housing requirements, mini-
mum distances, etc.).
5Core opted for a reinterpretation of the rationalist style in a modern way. The building is char-
acterized by a clear distinction between the street front (more chaotic, like the city itself) and the
back facade facing the garden (simpler and linear to create a more familiar and relaxing environ-

were studied for the internal distribution and furnishing. Materials are plastered masonry (white)

Urban plan for the creation of a new residential district in the area of Corticella, this being part of
the new PSC (Municipal Structural Plan) of Bologna, in the so-called “Città della Tangenziale” (City
of the Highway), which is the project to restore the area north of Bologna, including all the settle-
ments close to the great barrier of the highway.
After a deep analysis of the site and of the documentation provided by the Municipality, of the
strategies identified in the ValSAT (Assessment of Environmental and Territorial Sustainability),
and of the indicators and planning regulations of the area, 5Core opted for the construction of
large open courtyards with a high housing density, trying to create public and private spaces at
the same time. The layout of the volumes follows the creation of three new visual axis, all con-
verging into a new square, which will be characterized by the strong visual impact of a group of
towers with high architectural qualities, designed for commercial activities. From the square it will
to the existing Corticella district. Main design criteria of the project is the viability that is provided
by underground parking at the edge of the area, leaving the central part completely equipped with
new pedestrian and cycle paths. Great importance was given to the study solar, being buildings

The project is concerned with the architectural design of a simple dwelling with space for working
for short term occupation, for a Photographer. The site is a wild and dramatic place on the north-
west coast of Jutland, on Hanstolm’s shore. Within the building the photographer will be acutely
sensitive to the ever changing quality and movement of light through the day and according to the
time of year, as well as seasonal changes in nature.

Software created for an artist that needed to
draw composition of coloured pixels following
numerical sequences. It is coded in Flex and
uses Adobe Air framework, files can be export-
ed in FXG vector format (for use in Illustrator).
It’s written in Actionscript (Flash) and uses
Adobe Air to be OS indipendent. It was made to
ease the urban study of an area of my town
for an exam, making it much easier to see the
space occupied and the distance needed be-
tween the buildings.
grafiCAD is a simple app that draws the dia-
gram of the bending moment and the shear
stress on a continuous beam. It can also com-
bine different combinations and create their
envelopment. It outputs the drawings in Auto-
cad DXF and it is possible to save configuration
files.
