ROUTE 66

Route 66 was one of the original federal routes and it was built in 1926 but it
was indicated in 1926. The west coast of the New York wasn't connect with the
east coast because there were many mountains and deserts. Business owners
thought that USA needed to connect west and east and they decided to create
a new route.

The route 66 start in Chicago (Illinois),

continue by Missouri, Kansas,
Oklahoma, Texas, Nuevo México,
Arizona, California, and it finish in Los
Angeles with a total of 3939 km. This
route was modified many times but
today it is very difficult to pass and cross
it whole.

Residents of this route thought that this place was circulated for many bikers
and they believed that was necessary built places to eat, hotels and petrol
stations.

CURIOSITIES

- The sign of route 66 was one of the most stolen by people.

- Cyrus Avery was the creator of this route. On one hand, this man wanted
to call it "Route 60" because it is a round number, but decided to call it
"Route 66" because it is an easy number to remember.

- Also this route is called: "the way of the mother" and "the way of glory".

- It was a place or route for motorbikes, Harleys and potent cars.

- This route pass by 8 states of the USA and It was the first road pave of
the USA.

THE CAR SPINDLE

This is a sculpture that was built by Dustin Shuler. This

sculpture has eight cars that they are pierced by a
monolith. These cars are: a Volkswagen, a BMW, three
Fords, a Pontiac and two Mercury.

POLK A DOT

This is a restaurant in Braidwood and it was opened since 1956. We can see
some statues about famous, for example, Marilyn
Monroe, Elvis Presley, James Dean and Blues
Brothers because they were costumers of this place.
On the other hand, the restaurant was a school bus
painted with the colours of the rainbow.

TALL PAUL

It is a big sculpture
knowed lke “Tall Paul”
and this is in Atlanta.
There are more
sculptures and they
was created to promove
the sell of automobiles.
MISSOURI

HOME OF BIGFOOT

Home of Bigfoot a huge car with the biggest wheels

in the world. The wheels are three meters high!
Also, the driver “Dan Runte” won
many competitions with this
Bigfoot.

FOUR WOMEN ON THE ROUTE 66 OWN AN EXSERVICE STATION

This is a petrol station-restaurant

where we can find a crane pick up.
Tow Master was inspired by this pick
up for the movie “cars” and the four
owners of this restaurants are
represented in this film.

OKLAHOMA

ROUTE 66 VINTAGE IRON

It’s a motorbike museum of a

fond of motorbikes , the owner is
Chris Martin. He collects
motorbikes, newspapers, trophies
of motorbike racers, for example,
the winner “Steve Macqueen”.

TOTEM POLE PARK

This is a park where there are totems built by Ed. Galloway who took eight
years to build them. He died but his family and friends decided to keep the park
open.

The totem in the photo is the largest totem in the world and it is 300 meters
high.

BLUE WHALE P68

Blue Whale is a water attraction in an

attractions center where people can go inside
whale and jump in the tail. It was built by
Hugh Davis and it was a gift to his girlfriend
because they collected whales sculptures.

THE BUG FARM AND CADILLAC RANCH PG90

Bug Farm is a farm where we can find five scarab Volkswagen half buried.
Cadillac Ranch was built by many artists and architects. August 9, 2005 a group
of artists painted pink cars as a symbol of fight against lung cancer. In winter
animals hide inside to avoid the cold.

NEW MEXICO

THE LEGENDARY ROAD (MURALS)

They are some murals painted by Doug and Quales. these murals are inside
local buildings, for example, Mcdonalds.
The first mural is 38 meters of long and 7 meters high.

DELGADILLO BROTHERS

This place is a hamburger restaurant that was built by Juan Delgadillo and this
place is very famous because there is an old car that was painted by its owner
and he put inside a Christmas tree as a symbol of his restaurant

It’s a restaurant where the Waitresses wear clothes from the 50s.This place is
very well decorated and there are figures of famous people.
