Instructional Delivery and Management

Component 4: Physical education candidates engage students in meaningful learning experiences

through effective use of pedagogical skills. They use communication, feedback, technology, and
instructional and managerial skills to enhance student learning.

Artifact: EDU 355 edTPA Task 2

Date: Spring 2021

Reflection:

My EDU 355 edTPA Task 2 consisted of observing and a 3rd grade basketball dribbling lesson
with the concept being force. Throughout the video I had to observe and write notes based on
how the physical educator taught the class. Some of the components I looked at was how did
they engage students in learning, how the teacher uses cues/prompts, demonstrations, and how
the teacher provided a positive, low rise and physically safe environment. I would give specific
times in the video where the teacher would use feedback or how they kept their students
engaged. For example,“At (8:40) he uses feedback for students to use their dominant hand as
they follow their partner while dribbling”. These are all crucial and important components that
pertain to standard four.

The EDU 355 edTPA Task 2 realties to component 4 because I had to observe and analyze on
how the PE teacher communicated, gave feedback, used instructional and material skills during
this basketball dribbling lesson that felt with the concept of force. Implementing demonstrations,
explanations, and instructional cues that are aligned with short and long-term plan objectives are
important for a physical educator. This is important because better demonstrations will help
students better understand certain skills and how to properly perform them. Instructional cues
can make it easier to students to remember how to perform tasks, the use of pedagogical skills
and explanations provide a deeper understanding of the topic or skill.
