The story begins with an anonymous narrator,

obsessed with a diseased eye; which he calls a
vulture's eye. From an old man with whom he
lives, he finally decides to assassinate him, he
studies the crime carefully. After carrying out

An unnamed narrator opens the story by addressing the
reader and assuring him that he is nervous but not crazy.
He begins to tell a story in which he defends his sanity,

rather the fear produced by the eye of a
faint blue color of the old man. He insists once more that
he is not crazy, that his premeditated and measured
actions are not those of a mad man, although they are
those of a criminal. Every night the narrator goes to the

and when morning comes he behaves as if everything was
