 What attitudes have you shown on the use of extensive reading skills during online distance
learning/instruction?

Ahem. Okay, sir. My answer in your first question po uhm I don't know po if my answer is correct
but this is what I prepared a while ago po. So, uhm, I think I'm motivated and drowsy at the same
time. Uhm, I love reading but reading too much or jumping between different readings and being
confined in one environment is bad for me or detrimental in my mental health and it really affects
my attitude ahh towards my reading habit because uhm I feel like information overlo gets overload
sometimes and, but of course extensive reading helps me to uhm develop an interest in reading
more because I am not focused or uhm can I say limited to one topic only and I believe this skill
uhm aid me in expanding my vocabulary po.

Sige po, sir. Magandang gabi po, sir. Bale, heh. Ahh yung attitude ko ahh being able to gai ay sorry
sir medyo ano lang, medyo English. Being able to gain access to a purposeful path is the primary
goal of learning reading to extensive reading. Ahm, making us student get out of comfort zone to
open the opportunity to develop cognitive abilities and attitudes, reading between the lines from
other reading sources such as magazines and literary books makes a student grow and read faster.
Moreover, the fundamental attitudes that are veru purposeful from online distance learning
include patience when dealing with barriers such as internet connection, household chores, or
technical problems. Ahh, also that the ability has been beneficial in coping with changes and makes
it possible to thrive despite the current situation.

Hi ahh yes, sir. So uhm for me po I think ahh determination and persistence po. Kasama na rin po
siguro dun yung procastination, sir hehe. So ah for me po the sudden implementation of distance
learning po has has me to adjust in some areas of my studies po to cope up with the current
situation po natin ngayon. Especially po na it was a quite challenging po to some areas of ahh
concentration and comprehend all of the instructions given online po, sir. And I'm a bit worried din
po sa reading comprehension skills ko na might deteriorate because of the setup po ngayon and
fortunately po I am still able to not out of it po as realign my attitude and it become rather
determined po and persistent. Then uhm lear learning the to the to my fullest extent as of now po,
sir. Yun lang po.

Ah, para pa ah sorry po hindi po prepared pero para po sakin ung attitude po for the use extensive
reading is ah to promote or ah use our ano po, consitency. Lalo na po ah uhm giving the fact na
yung environment po namin ngayon is somewhat ah mas magulo. Hindi po natin alam yung ah
certainties like like kunwari po ngayon ah di po natin maiiwasan na maraming distractions and and
ano pa po pero above all dapat po kasi may consistency kahit na ayun nga po hehe may consitency
during online class. And ah isa pa po ah uhm nadedevelop din po yung understanding natin when it
comes to ah certain ah issues ganon po.
Ah, sir. I just want to clarify. Extensive reading means uhm you're reading like on your own outside
from the class, right? Tama ba? Ah, siguro po sir this online class ah I have been, actually I d d don't
find reading materials parang hard, it's just that I have to keep myself disciplined at all times to be
able to finish what I'm reading or at least uhm really ah understand that on my own. Ah, you have
to parang its not enough na you just rely on this kunware for example this one reading, it's it's our
responsibility of each na parang if you think it's not enough na you understood it, you find another
ah another material, I think that that's how why what my attitude toward it. I always force myself
to uhm you have to finish this, if hindi mo gets, try to look for another one. Basta in the end po, ah
that's how I deal with it in my end po.

Uhm, my attitude towards extensive reading po, I mean kung ikocompare po sa dati na face to face
classes ahh, mahina po kasi ako magbasa ng long passages, parang madali po akong antukin, or
madali po akong mag zone out so I would have to read the same sentence again and again para
lang magets ko sya. Kaya nung face to face classes po, like GED sa GED classes po binibigay na yung
reading, yun na lang po mismo yung babasahin ko. I don't usually look for other sources to fact
check kung ano ba yung binigay. However, ngayon pong online setup especially na nasa higher year
level na po kami mas navavalue ko po yung extensive reading in a way na if I understand the topic
clearly naman po I wouldn't rely on extensive reading, I would just sort, I would just rely po sa kung
ano yung nakalagay sa module. Pero if may gray areas po or parang may certain parts po na doesnt
make sense or parang hindi po sila nagko connect, then I start being skeptic po sa ahh binigay na
module or na reading. Dun na po ako magsisimulang mag look for other sources na pwede ko pong
mas maintindihan kung ano po yung parang point or lesson na binibigay don.

Uhm, good afternoon po. So, being able to ah being required to read long paragraphs ah such as
articles and speeches during my online class I have to practice myself on reading long paragraphs
den. And so, uhm, I usually find myself reading news articles and documentaries, yung transcript ng
mg documentaries so that on topics na interested ako so what I do is I scroll down to see how long
I would read and often times I get discouraged and I feel down whenever I see just text on the
screen on a one page. So, but I know, I have to do it, it's a practice for me so I just read it, I just
start reading it and when I do, I find myself immersed on the article like I'm really interested on
what comes next. And so, hindi ko na mapapansin na patapos ko nang basahin yung article na yon
and so after reading I would try to form like a summary of the things I've read and when I see ahh
an area na hindi ko masyadong maintindihan, babalikan ko sya sa article which it works for me
everytime kahit sa mga online class na bigla silang nagpapabasa during the class ng mahahabang
articles so I do that. I just do a quick scan and kapag may hindi ako naintindihan I just come back for
it. Ayun po.

Ah yeah thanks sir. So ah for as someone na nagri-research na po since junior high so basically it's
my fifth or sixth year na po ngayon sa tuloy-tuloy na research ah ah think yung ganung extensive
reading ay talagang naging nakasanayan ko na sya regardless kung sino or sino nagsulat or anong
organization nanggaling yung article na yun. Kailangan ko pa rin talaga syang tignan ng mga iba
pang related na literatures or studies para doon so dito is parang nakasanayan na sya na tuloy-
tuloy lang talaga na extensive reading po. Yun.
Ah good afternoon po. So I would consider my initial attitude towards extensive reading during this
quarantine was to be a hassle because I actually not an avid reader uhm I would usually when it
comes to different kinds of literature I would only presume things that I am interested in and when
it comes to research and the like I would just go what's just enough. But as time passes in this
qurantine, I realized that uhm literature is very important especially when you know you're
focusing on modules or fact texts like you said so my life still around uhm reading comprehension
or extensive reading skills has improved and I don't just go to what's enough I go for what's uhm
practically let's say imperfection in terms of fact checking and information. So I would say it's not a
hassle anymore but it's an important lifestyle for me. Yun lang po.

Yes po, hi sir! Hello. Am I audible po? Ok. Actually sir, in all honesty uhm my process or my attitude
towards this extensive reading learning, same lang din po sa inyo actually ni Jan Kyle like I print out
also the modules ganyan, I, kapag sa modules example meron akong unfamiliar topics or words
that I find difficult to understand, that's where I research and then naglalagay po ako ng sticky
notes kase same po sa inyo it's kind of my mechanism, coping mechanism rather kase kahit uhm
nasa online setup I feel like pag nagpi-print out ako and nagbabasa ako ng hardcopy, nasa school
ako ganon. Like parang like habang nagtuturo yung prof, tingin ko po ah kasama ko sya ganong
kase binabasa ko yung tinuturo nya. Kahit samin na Archi na medyo madalang ang modules since
we're more on plates and drawings, uhm mas okay saken, mas workable yung print outs na
modules po talaga. Although yun nga, same po with Jan Kyle pag po sir na may struggles po talaga
with professors who doesn't allow students to print and ano po kase e ang bad effect for me,
masakit po kase sa mata pag super nagi-stay sa laptop or sa... Opo, totoo po. So that's my attitude
towards it kase if ano po may tendency din po kasi akong tamarin kapag super nasa laptop and sa
PC, parang hindi mo sya naha-highlight e. And kung parang yung tingin mo pa lang na blank white
paper with black text, tas mahaba pa yung mga babasahin, super nakakatamad po nya. So what I
do is I print it out, I research, and then I don't depend too much on the modules, I tick for other
learning materials as well para mas maka gather po ako ng information on my end.

Hello po, sir. Am I audible po? Ok so for my second, for my answer on the second question, ahm I
think extensive reading skill uhm affect the development of reading uhm during online learning in a
way that uhm it provides opportunity for students to become more independent learner in a way
that uhm they tend to build or strenghten their reading speed and fluency. And because I think it
develop the habit of reading, we can sharpen our minds and explore different things in just
reading. And it can also provide opportunity to understand new words, phrase, sentences that
would aim in improving language skills po.

Sir, hindi. Mga tatlong sentence lang haha. Ano po, hinde Tagalog na to sir. Hehe de sa tinging ko
positive po sya like better kasi nasasanay na nagbabasa lagi para maimprove yung comprehension
and cognitive abilities nga po ng isang student kaya nga po as gumagaling sa mga pinapapasang
essay ganon kase marami po syang pagkukunan ng ideas coming from past readings. Yun lang sir.

Ah sir my answer for second question po ah extensive reading skills po can affect the development
of reading during online distance learning by assisting the students such as I am po so comprehend
all the instructions given to us especially that everything is probably ah online now. So it was quite
hard to understand instructions especially when we just have the have to read it over so ah you
cannot really completely ah ga gauge to perceive understanding of the subject or the instruction
itself so it is the same as what was written in the instructions so having extensive reading skills po
sir completely comprehends the words speak in the language can actually provide a massive
difference as it can help terminate some barriers po that hinders learning and the ability to enjoy
the whole process of reading sir. So ah lastly po it also avoid misconceptions regarding the written
topics or instruction given us with the help of extensive reading skills and you cannot ah avoid
overlooking some details that might or might not have significance to your reading so parang ano
po parang mas gusto nyo pa pong mas uhm ma-elaborate yung knowledge nyo po tungkol sa
readings na yun.

In my opinion naman po, ah nakaka affect and extensive reading skills in a divided into two aspects
which is the positive and negative po. Sa positive naman po, yun nga po mas ah nadideepen yung
understanding namen and mas nadadagdagan yung knowledge namen when it comes to certain
issues and problems na na pwede pa pong pagusapan ngayon. And ah for the negative naman po,
ah masyado na pong naooverwhelm yung utak ng for ah parang information overload po. Ah when
ah when a student, for example ah reads ah twenty pages of reading and ang kailangan lang po is
ah parang limited lang po like for example yung niread ah yung pinapabasa pong ah article sa inyo
is twenty pages but yung yung kailangan nyo lang po isagot is three hundred words parang pano
mo po pagkakasyahin yung twenty pages na binasa mo sa three hundred words. Yun po.
Uhm sir I think personally po ahh we may not notice it but when we do extensive reading it actually
improves yung reading skills naten parang we don't notice it, we dwell on the fact na. "Ano ba yan
ang haba ng binabasa ko.", ganyan. But eventually when you're in class or when you're given like
an assessment and most of the questions right now are uhm more on application based talaga that
most of our profs don't only settle for those questions na merely parang objective type lang
kunwari what is this, what is that. It usually an application so because of the extensive reading skills
that uhm we apply and then we we actually, we technically uhm learn more, I mean it's really hard
this online setup pero it eventually you realized na effective kase uhm at the back of your mind
you're confident about this certain concept uhm you know how to answer it and you know how it
works when it comes to uhm application so that's what I think po.

Or how we develop our reading skills? So far, it hasn't developed my reading skills that much but I
know po na in a way it helped me sa pagiging ah skeptic po in what I read so I try to look for more
information about this matter na binabasa ko just to see if it actually legitimate or kung totoo nga
ba ung nababasa ko like example may nakita po ako somewhat sa social media na balita about a
certain virus for example na lalabas naman daw tapos parang ang daming gray again ang daming
gray areas don, kulang sa information proving or saying more about this virus so I do more research
on that virus or its origin, how will it affect us, is it true is it not true? Parang ganun po. It helped, it
helpded me ah look for more information to see what I'm seeing online or what I'm reading is really
true po.

Ah, hi po ule. So extensive reading skills and how it affects my reading during online distance or
learning instruction. Ah I think naiimprove po una sa lahat yung uhm comprehension ko kase sa
when I read extensively, sobrang tuloy-tuloy. So, I'm, my mind somehow forced on how to
understand each sentence that passes. Pero okay lang naman na balikan. But what I mean is, over
time, mas nagkakaron ako ng quick understanding sa mga compound or complex things na
sinasabe. And next is yung vocabulary expansion. So ah reading extensively I encounter words that
I don't understand so I'm forced to search it sa Google and so the next time na makikita ko yung
word na yon, eh maiintindihan ko na sya. So ah and the last is oral skill kase po uhm, as we all know
kapag nagbabasa tayo, ah we use our own voice sa ating head so everytime that I read and read
and read, parang naiinherit ko po yung speed sa ng voice sa utak ko and nasasabi ko sya sa tuwing
I'm doing a public uhm ah public presentations, mas bumibilis yung pagsasalita ko and mas nagiging
fluent ako sa sinasabi ko. And i'm able to express my feelings freely. Ayun po, I think yun po yung
nag develop saken.

So ayun po to answer the question is kung paano na kung paano naapektuhan ng extensive reading
yung yung development ng sa reading ko. Ah, ah, first is yung main, yung sa investigative skills
naten. Ah dahil sa paulit-ulit nating pagbabasa madalas ay nakukuha na natin yung sa paano ba
yung ano ah i-construction ng legitimate or credible na ano na source compared doon sa alam
mong pinagpatong-patong lang na kung saan-saang kinuhang source na hindi naman masyadong
credible, ganun. Then yun nga tulad din nung sinabi ng iba, naiimprove din neto yung ano naten, ah
vocabulary naten sa ano, yon. Yun po.
Uhm hello po. So for me I think extensive reading skills uhm how it affected the development of
reading during online learning I think po uhm it created parang increased quality in the outputs
that we uhm provide especially in uhm modules because let's say before before uhm extensive
reading skills were just not on a, not really an all time low but not as high as now uhm the quality of
outputs which is be enough or just right. But, and through extensive reading skills, we don't really
attain knowledge but you attain the sense of understanding in terms of the information that uhm it
tried to study about. So I believe that ayan uhm the quality of outputs that we provide are better
than before because of extensive reading skills.

Uhm sakin po sir uhm di po kasi ako like more of very kind of a reader type of a person before so
like with this online class in online pandemic uhm mas na develop saken yung deep reading within
the modules and articles. Like let's say kase diba with the online setup ang laging sinasabi is hindi
naman kami efficiently na makaka ah na magiging efficiently professional pag graduate kase we
haven't experienced yung on-site training although it's true a parang sometimes baka nga hindi
kami sapat but same with Jan Kyle firmly believe na sa end naman namen as students is we have a
lot of modules and the professors are providing us a lot of readings and articles and if there are
facts and infos that are lacking to those lectures, there's the internet for us to do research, for us to
uhm find the knowledge dun sa mga questionable thoughts ganun po. Parang there are
profesionals din naman po online which we could ask kung paano sa ganto, pano yung ganyan. So
sa development ko po, mas naging deep, mas naging innate saken na alamin yung lectures
beforehand like if you know the topic already, you can research it if wala pang module at least
meron ka ng other knowledge. Kumbaga may source ka na regarding sa topic hindi lang sa centered
sa kung ano yung binibigay or or inihahain sa inyo ng professors. Kasi ano po e uhm sa amen ah we
read pero it's not enough like pag magaapply po kami ng reading sa drawing, may mga kulang
talaga na info. I don't know if sadya sya ng professors or ganon talaga sya dapat ibigay but may
kulang lage so yung challenge na yon yung mas nag develop saken na mas magbasa pa, mas
maghanap pa ng uhm ng ibang bagay outside the box para mas mag grow po as a student. Dun mo
malalaman po kasi na you're meant for it kung alam mo kung ano yung mali tas hahanpin mo yung
sagot dun sa tanong. So yun po yung development towards me.
