Read each statements carefully. Write FLEX if the given word or phrase is correct, but if

THESIS STATEMENT
According to Writing Center (2020), thesis statement tells the reader of the
interpretation of the writer in a certain Idea; it tells the reader the map or the whole
expectation of to the article. Thesis statement sums up the main point of the paper. It
usually contains a one or two sentences statement, and commonly a thesis statement
appears on the last part of the introduction. In most essays and research paper thesis
statement is a must to have, sometimes it is ought to answer the paper‘s research
question. (McComber, 2019)
According to Mc Comber (2019), the thesis statement is one of the most important
sentences in your paper. Its functions include:
Establish the purpose of the paper
Keep the discussion focused due to the scope given on the thesis statement
1. ANALYTICAL
It makes the persuasive arguments stronger, writer describe the key points by
means of analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of the topic
Thesis statement unveil the key points through the writer‘s analysis and
introduce the drawn conclusion of the paper.
Example:
The UK has always been hostile to the EU
The history of the UK’s relationship to the EU is complicated; from the beginning,
Britain has been reluctant to fully integrate into Europe, both economically and
culturally, but the politics of EU membership has changed throughout the past 50
years
The first example makes a generalizing statement – it isn’t clear what will be
analyzed or why. The second example is much more specific, and guides the
reader through the historical analysis that your paper will undertake.
2. ARGUMENTATIVE
Aims to persuade the readers about the topic.
Should describe the claim specifically and concisely the author‘s side
Clearly introduce the reasoning why did the author take a particular stand
Example:
The Brexit referendum result was driven by political frustration.
The Brexit referendum result was driven by working-class frustration with the
political elite, caused by austerity policies that have eroded public services and
fragmented communities; the referendum offered an alternative to the status quo.
The first example takes a position, but doesn’t tell the reader anything about how
you will build your argument. The second example condenses the key ideas and
evidence that you will use to convince your reader.
3. EXPOSITORY
Aims to explain or discuss facts in a particular topic
Thesis statement must elaborate the scope of the topic properly.
Example:
Many demographic factors affected how people voted in the Brexit referendum.
Polling and surveys shed light on the demographics of the Brexit vote, which can
be broken down in terms of age, ethnicity, region, and educational level.
The first example is vague and obvious. The second example clearly lays out the
sources and categories of information that your paper will explore.
Read each thesis statements carefully. Identify whether the said statement is a good or
bad thesis statement. If the thesis statement is GOOD write “Sa True!”, justify or explain
why do is it correct but if the statement is BAD write “Ekis mars!” and revise the given
statement.
