WEBINAR/TRAINING: TEACHING GRAMMAR COMMUNICATIVELY IN THE
PHILIPINES 
TOPIC: WHAT DOES COMMUNICATIVE GRAMMAR TEACHING INVOLVE?

One thing I then realized as an English Teacher is that I must be particular with the
Grammar and Composition. That I must always double check my topics on that day in order
to successfully conduct Teaching-Learning Process.

I also learned about Language Acquisition which is defined as the manner of learning
a language by immersion. A child learns a language naturally without the need to study.
He/she acquires it simply because it is his/her native language or it’s what he/she usually
hears around people in his/her environment, and Language Learning which is a structured
learning. It comes with having a theoretical knowledge on grammar rules and structure of a
language.

This training indeed gives us teachers more ideas on the strategies that we can use for
a better Teaching-Learning Process particularly in English Language.

Part 2. 
One thing I have learned about teaching grammar communicatively is that as a teacher I
should let or allow my students use the language (English) for communication without limits,
meaning, as their teacher I must provide them variety of activities that they can choose from,
and by that they will have more opportunity to practice and develop the language in a low-
stress manner and enjoyable one.

One thing I have learned about myself as a teacher is that I should be flexible. Being in a
department that requires a lot of flexibility, creativity, and the ability to change plans at the
drop of a hat. Flexibility is an important skill. Anything can happen in the school, or even in
at home, and as a teacher, I should be able to be prepared and adjust to best serve the needs of
my students.

One thing that surprised me is that basic Grammar Rules can be taught in an easy way.
Honestly, though I’m an English Teacher, teaching Basic English Grammar Rules is
exhausting for me. But because of this training/workshop, it somehow changed my
impression (😉).

One thing that will impact my teaching is the influence I can give to my learners. I can still
remember a student who told me that she wanted to be a teacher because she was inspired by
my story. I always told them that no matter how good you are in class, if you do not practice
proper and good values, you will never be genuinely happy with your success or
achievements. I always make sure that in every lesson we have, there is values integration
that they can apply in their day to day life. And for me, it’s the best reward a teacher can
acquire from his/her students.
