Environmental Chemistry

I have also appreciated more how the natural world works because of the

ecological concepts that were discussed in this module such as the

ecological hierarchy and energy flow. This part made me realize how

sophisticated the organization of our world and how these basic factors

make up such a large, complicated, yet well-ordered system that is the

planet Earth. Learning about how energy flow through the biosphere was

also very enlightening as it provided us with knowledge about the ultimate

source of energy, its conversions to varying forms and efficiency. This also

made me recognize more the importance of energy in our lives seeing its

pathways in our environment and different organisms.

Finally, the last part of the module was a great way to make us

appreciate more the value and importance of being aware about our

population carrying capacity, sustainable development and Green

Chemistry, especially since many different environmental issues seem to

arise frequently nowadays. I also find the concept of Atom Economy rather

new and interesting since I have only heard of it the first time in this module

but I think this is also a great way to realize that preventing waste is also

important on a molecular level.s
