5 Tips For Writing A Funny Poem - Power Poetry

We use our poetry to write our own life stories, and not all chapters in
those stories are serious. Writing a comedic poem is an excellent way to
brighten up someone’s day, and tell a funny story. We've got lots of
examples of funny poetry, and some tips to help you get started:
1. Subject. You can base some poems around a story so that there is
one main purpose and it flows. For a humorous poem, you might
humorous -- you don't always need a plot to demonstrate why something makes you laugh.
Parody. A parody is when an already existing story or other piece of material is made more humorous by changing
the language but keeping with the way it is written. This is a great technique to practice and will definitely help
expand your poetry writing skills. For example, you could make a parody of one of Shakespeare’s poems if you were
to use the same rhyme scheme but use comical, modern-day words to
Hyperbole. Hyberbole and exaggeration are great tools for making a poem more humorous. Vivid, over-thetop
descriptions are a great way to sweep your reader up into the rhythm of the poem you've written.
Language. Humorous words give rise to humorous stories. Think of words, phrases, pop-culture references, rhymes
and sounds that make you laugh. Don't be afraid to use repetition for comedic effect. Make your poem fun or tongue-
